Share Your World – 6-222020

I am writing this from my new blog. I wrote under the name Teresa Smeigh on www.tessacandoit.com. Now I am using a pen name on www.tessadeanauthor.com.

Questions:

Have you ever ‘dined and dashed” (i.e. eaten the meal and then run out the restaurant door without paying)? No, I have not. I was brought up quite strictly and have such a high moral compass that it is almost impossible for me to lie. Seriously. I hate being put into situations where lying is necessary because I can’t pull it off usually. Now if the service was horrendous or the food inedible I will fight for a refund or free meal, but that is only if the situation was truly bad.

Have you ever been in a car accident and either left the scene of the accident (providing it was a fender bender and not serious) or denied culpability for causing it when you did, (if it were minor or serious)? Again no I have never left the scene of an accident and I had two that were my fault and I told the cops honestly that it was my fault. I am sure the other driver was shocked, but I believe in telling the truth even if it could mean trouble for me. In both situations the cops were nice, they did not give me a ticket and in one case the cop even said it wasn’t exactly my fault since the people collecting money in the street were a distraction and if it wasn’t the mayor’s son out there he would arrest them and charge them with the accident. He did what he could.

(Oldie which has been asked many times before)   Have you ever found a wallet or purse or some money (over $20) in the street and just taken it, thinking ‘finders keepers, losers weepers?   Or would you be ‘good’ and hand it in?  Again I would not keep something that was not mine. A bill blowing around the street I would keep, but if I found a purse or wallet I would never keep it. And I would hope if the shoe was on the other foot that the other person would return mine. I believe in the golden rule. I have been called a goody two shoes most of my life, but that is the way it is. I left my purse in the store. I went back in hardly daring to hope, but a lady came up to me and said “There you are, I hoped I could find you.” And nothing was missing. There are honest people in this world.

What was the last thing you stole or shoplifted?   If you never ever considered doing that, tell us your secret!   🙂 OK, I think by now you know my answer to this one. I never took something that wasn’t mine. However, I was in a situation that I had to consider and I had only seconds to make up my mind. My infant daughter was in the stroller and as we strolled around the store I didn’t see her pick up a stuffed animal and put it in the stroller. We headed out the door and across a major highway (we lived on the other side) and suddenly she tossed it out of the stroller. I grabbed the toy as cars were coming and ran to the other side of the street and headed home. I didn’t look at it until we were home and thought to myself, that I didn’t recognize it. Then I saw the price tags on it. I was horrified, but I was more horrified that since they knew us and when we had left and I was suddenly going to show up and bring back the toy SHE stole, I just said I would have to let it go just this once. I watched her with my eagle eye from that point on and made her put things back when I caught her trying to take something again. I was so mortified that I never went back to that store. She was taught at the age of two or so that we do NOT take things that do not belong to us. They would have probably understood if I did bring it back, but I couldn’t go back there. My husband didn’t understand and thought it was not a big deal, but it was to me.

  1. Thanks Tessa for Sharing Your World!! You might be a bit surprised at this, but so far the ‘goody two shoes’ overwhelm the less honest in the group of answerers to this SYW post. I’m in good company with those bloggers (although I fall into the second category myself or have), and it’s a pleasure to know another one. You should be very proud!!
