Preheat the Oven
By Tessa Dean July 2020
I looked at the kitchen sink and surrounding area. The clean dishes were in the drainer and the counters and sink were full of dirty dishes. My mother and father were on their way over and I had about five minutes to straighten this kitchen up or my mother would give me a lecture on cleanliness.
I grabbed the drainer and shoved the drainer and clean dishes into the oven. I opened the dishwasher and threw all the dirty dishes into it and jammed it shut.
“Janet, preheat the oven, I brought over a lasagna for dinner,” my mother said.

There’s nothing for it. She’s going to have to fire up the oven

Hopefully she will take the drainer and dishes out first despite the lecture. LOL!

Why do we always get caught out by our mothers!

Because Mom’s always know and probably do it themselves. We have to learn somewhere.

Hah! I never understood those who put dirty dishes into the oven, never mind clean ones!

Me too! Know lots of people who do it though.

Oops! This reminds of an old friend who used to hide away all his dirty pots and pans when he had visitors. 🙂

I know people who do this too. I don’t. I leave the mess right where it is LOL!

True sounding slice of life. The things we do to avoid that disapproving voice in our lives. Surely, she’ll take out the the drainer. Yuck. Nicely written!

Thank you! I would hope that she would take out the drainer before turning on the oven. That would be a disaster in the making.

I’d a feeling that wasn’t going to work.
