#JusJoJan prompt the 12th – “Sing”

**********

I can’t sing. I can’t carry a tune to save my life. I have no middle register. It is either high or low, no normal in the middle range. Singing embarrasses me so much. My ex-husband had a great singing voice and he was in the schools musicals. We didn’t go to the same school so I couldn’t be part of them in any way, but I went to every rehearsal and knew every part and could have been a stand-in if necessary except for the singing parts of course. I knew all the words though to both the play and the songs.

Linda G Hill’s Rules:

Hey there! Welcome to the 8th annual Just Jot it January challenge! This year is going to be far simpler than the last couple of years. One prompt per day, link to that post, that’s it. Details below.

But why should you participate in this challenge? To keep the ol’ fingers warm and meet up with an awesome blogging community, that’s why! Just Jot it January, AKA JusJoJan, is a challenge to write a post every day of the month of January. We’ve grown from a handful of participants in 2014 to close to fifty for the past couple of years. Let’s see if we can make it to sixty this year!

Here are the JusJoJan Rules:

1. Just Jot It January starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join in! Here, we run on the honour system; the “jot it” part of JusJoJan means that anything you jot down, anywhere (it doesn’t have to be a post, it can even be a grocery list), counts as a “jot.” If it makes it to your blog that day, great! If it waits a week to get from a sticky note to your screen, no problem!

2. I’ll post prompts at 2am my time (GMT -5). The prompt will be the word in quotation marks in the title of my 2am post. You don’t have to follow the prompt every day, but that will be where you leave your link for others to see. You’ll get a prompt for every day except Wednesday, when the prompt is simply my One-Liner Wednesday and on Saturday, when your prompt will be the Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS, which will appear at about 9:30am Friday. Each prompt post will include the rules.

3. Please ping back or link to the daily prompt. To ping back, just copy the URL from the daily prompt post, and paste it anywhere in your post. Check to make sure your link shows up where you want it to, and go back occasionally to see other bloggers’ entries – the more you visit others, the more they’ll visit you! Note: A) The newest pingbacks will be at the top of the comments section. B) Ping backs only work if you’re blogging on WordPress. Everyone else must paste a link manually.

4. Tag your post JusJoJan and/or #JusJoJan.

5. Write anything! Any length will do! It can even be a photo or a drawing – you’re going to title it, right? There’s your jot!

6. If your post is NSFW, do not ping back. Please leave your link in the comments with a warning.

7. If you’d like to, use the JusJoJan badge so that others can find your post more easily.

The Weekly Smile for the 11th of January, 2021 #weeklysmile

My smile is that I got to see my grandson today. The one who has been in the Marine Corps for the last 4 years. He is almost discharged. He picked me up at the car repair shop where I dropped my car off and then he took me out for breakfast. It was great seeing him again.

Non-Fiction Mostly (just a few minor changes)

The letter and a Brand New Car

By Tessa Dean January 2021

I had been laid off from my job. Unemployment had paid for me to take some minor business courses that would allow me to start a business rather than look for work. My husband and I had decided to open a store. We joined a wholesale website and received catalogs of items we could order at wholesale prices. We decided eventually we would open a store, but we were going to start by selling at a flea market and I would work on putting a catalog up on a website. He decided since he was still working this would be mainly my business with his help when needed.

One night I was working hard at adding pictures to the website and had a question for him about the new car he had bought me that morning. I padded downstairs, barefoot as always, and entered the family room where he had his computer. He didn’t hear me. I stared, speechless. He was holding a large letter, a sheet of white paper with a large heart and across it was written “I love you and miss you so much, M.”

I didn’t utter a sound and just then across his computer screen came the same words and heart and she signed her name. “When can we get together again,” she wrote.

Just then he realized I was there and had seen everything. I didn’t say a word and headed for the upstairs bedroom where my office was. I sat down and just started to work. I didn’t know what to do. This explained the new car which I never got to choose before. I would drive it, but never choose it. He even encouraged me to get the more expensive model I wanted.

About 15 minutes later he came upstairs and sat on the bed and said, ” I just wanted to take my shoes off.” The man never brought his shoes upstairs. She had probably told him that he should check to make sure I wasn’t have a mental breakdown or committing suicide or whatever. I ignored him and continued to work. He sat there and finally went downstairs again.

Days went by and I didn’t say a word. However the day he came home from his nighttime job and found the whole house lit up, he knew the shit was about to hit the fan.

I asked him what he planned on doing. Were we getting a divorce or what? He assured me that no, he didn’t want a divorce and to break up our family. We had 3 children and the youngest was only 12 years old. I knew he was full of it, but figured I would wait and see.

A couple of days later he came home and he said he was sorry, but her husband had just found out and he wanted to be with her.

He said I could divorce him for adultery, but I said no, I wanted nothing to do with it. If you want a divorce than you would have to do the filing. We went to a divorce center because we didn’t have money for lawyers and filled out forms and they typed the legal documents up. We paid the court fee and it was over.

I told him that I couldn’t afford that fancy car and it was all his. The dealer had screwed up and put it in his name and not mine. Idiot! I also asked him why he did something so stupid. Someone had to pay for that car and it wasn’t going to be me. I took the old, paid off station wagon and my oldest daughter and I got an apartment to share.

I was relieved as I wanted a divorce, but couldn’t bring myself to be the bad guy. I wasn’t and she’s a liar and a bitch and he has spent the last 21 years with her and she bosses him around like he always bossed me around. I thanked her for taking him off of my hands and wished them good riddance.

I did tell the kids not to blame it all on him and her. We were both responsible for the break up.

The second letter came from me and I poured out all of my aggravation and pain as to what he had actually done. Not a good idea and the kids didn’t need all the details, but I felt better.

Now he doesn’t get away with telling me what to do. He still tries, but that ship sailed. The 12 year old is 33 years old now, but took his sister’s having a baby while in high school to heart and was very careful. He is still childless.

My oldest grandson could make me a great grandma at anytime, but hasn’t. He just got discharged out of the Marine Corp.
