The Birthday Party Part 5 (Part 1Part 2Part 3, Part 4)

By Tessa Dean January 2021

Wayne came to the door to see what was going on between Thomas and Joseph. He and Jimmy had all been at Joseph’s house watching the daily boxing workout that they hoped was making their bodies more toned. Although watching the show and doing the workout were two different things. In order to actually tone their bodies they would have to do the exercises they were watching. None of them seemed to get that point.

Wayne sees Joseph flat on his back and Thomas is poking him with each word of his threat. Wayne called Jimmy over to watch the action as if it were a comedy routine. They both were laughing. Neither was listening to the words that Thomas was saying to Joseph so neither of them realized he was talking about them all.

Thomas said he was sick of all the nonsense and jokes they liked to pull on each other. He didn’t find them funny and this last one had really hurt. Ginny was important to him and just because they didn’t have girlfriends didn’t mean they could just make fun of him and try to mess up his relationship. He was serious about Ginny and had to admit to himself that after tonight he was falling in love with her and he could see what a wonderful mother she would be to their children.

Thomas stopped poking Joseph and stood up and glanced at the other two. He didn’t know if they were in on this last prank Joseph had pulled, but they were part of all the other ones. It was time to look for new friends. Ones that had girlfriends so they could do things together occasionally if Ginny was agreeable.

Thomas looked at all three of them standing there watching him and said, “I have had it with all the pranks and childish behavior. What Joseph did tonight, with or without you, was the final straw. We are no longer friends. Stay out of Ginny and my lives.” He turned on his heel and left.

The three boys behind him were still laughing, while Joseph was rubbing his rib cage from all the poking. “What’s up with him?” Wayne and Jimmy asked. Joseph looked away and didn’t answer. He hadn’t told them what he had done. It was his prank and because of him Thomas wouldn’t be friends with any of them. He knew it wasn’t fair, but if he told them he might lose all of his friends. As long as Thomas didn’t say anything else, no one had to know what happened.

“It’s nothing man. Just a little prank I pulled on Thomas and he got seriously mad about it. It will probably blow over eventually. Just stay away from him for now. Plus I think we need to tone down those pranks we are always pulling. Thomas was right about one thing, sometimes they do hurt someone.”
