I schedule the challenge to go out around 6.30 am UK time, but pingbacks have to be approved manually so might not show immediately. This could be because I’m late accessing my blog or due to time differences, but I will get there, I promise!
I look forward to reading your responses, and as always thank you all for your continued support.

The Birthday Party Part 21 (Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5Part 6Part 7Part 8Part 9Part 10Part 11Part 12Part 13Part 14Part 15Part 16Part 17Part 18Part 19, Part 20)

The knock sounded at the door again. Thomas struggled off the couch and headed to the front door. He looked out the peephole and saw it was his ex-friend Joseph. He looked alone. No sign of Wayne or Jimmy.

Thomas unlocked the door and inched it open a bit. “What do you want Joseph? I told you we were no longer friends. I am still very upset over what you did to Ginny and me.”

“Thomas, look I have thought about it and I was quite an ass, I know that, but please can’t we be friends again? Wayne and Jimmy don’t know what happened and they don’t understand when I keep giving them excuses as to why we can’t get together anymore. They think Ginny is the reason why we aren’t friends anymore. That she is the reason there is no time for just us to get together.”

“I didn’t tell Ginny what you did in detail. She told me she hadn’t seen you guys in a few months and had no idea what happened between us. She hasn’t mentioned the fact that you aren’t around either. Listen, I am babysitting right now and the twins are screaming. They either need to be changed, fed or both. I need to take care of them right now. We can talk about this at another time. Ginny and I have other friends and they are mostly couples. We don’t have a lot of time to spend with our single friends anymore. We are engaged and planning our wedding. I can’t think of many reasons for us to be friends anymore. You were part of my old life and I am afraid that goes for Wayne and Jimmy as well. Look I have to go as the twins are screaming upstairs.”

Thomas shut the door in his face. He could see the disappointment, but he had outgrown those guys. They didn’t fit into his new life with Ginny. They didn’t even have jobs. They just hung around and he didn’t know if they planned on going back to school or not.

Both he and Ginny were busy working and going to school. Ginny was in school all day full time and worked part time at night at the same restaurant as his mom in the evenings and on the weekends. And he worked all day and took technical school classes at night after work, Monday through Thursday, which is why he was home this Friday night to watch the kids.

Joseph knocked on the door again and asked if Thomas thought his mother might be able to get him a job as a busboy at the restaurant where she and Ginny both worked.

“I don’t know man, you would have to ask her. I am not doing it for you. Why don’t you just go apply there? I doubt my Mom would be interested in helping you get a job. She knows what you did to Ginny and I. Please get out of my life. I am sorry about Wayne and Jimmy, but we have just outgrown each other.

“Oh man, please don’t do this. We all miss you.”

“Jacob and Mary I will be right there. Hang on,” Thomas yelled up the stairs. “Goodbye Joseph.” Thomas shut and locked the door, ignoring the pounding of Joseph’s knocking.

There was a hard knock at the door. Thomas jumped at the loudness of it. He was alone except for the younger brothers and little sister he was watching for the night because his mother was working at the restaurant that night and his dad was out with his friends playing cards.

His parents tried not to make him babysit too often, but sometimes he took his turn at it. Rory who was almost 18 also took a turn babysitting if his dad wanted some time off while their mother was at work. And occasionally they would also have Joshua take a turn a few times a month if neither of the two older boys was available.. He was almost 16, but all those kids were hard to watch especially with the newborn twins to take care of as well. Being a large family can be hard to deal with at times. However they were all used to it and loved having a large family.

They knew that both mom and dad had to work to support the family and they also needed some time off for themselves. So everyone who could pitched in.

#JusJoJan prompt the 31st – “Candy”

#JusJoJan prompt the 31st – “Candy”

**********

I was rushing across the highway with my daughter in her stroller. The traffic was bad during the day so I was hurrying as fast as possible. Suddenly she threw something out of the stroller. It was a stuffed animal and I briefly slowed and scooped it up and continued running to get to the other side and safety.

When I got home I looked at the stuffed animal and realized it wasn’t ours. It had a price tag on it and I had never seen it before. I looked in the stroller to see what else she had helped herself to. Stolen is the the word, but she wasn’t even two years old and had no idea what she did was wrong. She wanted it, she took it.

I also found a candy bar in there. I was faced with a dilemma. Did I fight the traffic on the highway to run back to the store to return it or not. They obviously didn’t know it had been lifted by my quick fingered daughter since no one came after us and I was embarrassed not to mention having to fight the traffic again with her in the stroller tossing things out. I decided not to risk another trip across the highway.

The next time we were out in a store with her in the stroller I had to keep my eyes on her at all times. She did it again. She reached out and grabbed a pack of gum. “Oh no, little girl we aren’t doing this again,” I told her sternly. I made her take the gum and give it back to the lady at the register. I explained what she did to the woman and apologized, but my daughter fought me to keep that gum. She didn’t chew gum, but she just grabbed whatever she was near enough to. She didn’t understand what she did wrong at that point, but we had to start somewhere. And I had to pay closer attention to her and her quick, sneaky little fingers. She was our first kid and we had no idea what kids do. Daughter number two never got the chance to do it. We knew better after that.

Linda G Hill’s Rules:

Hey there! Welcome to the 8th annual Just Jot it January challenge! This year is going to be far simpler than the last couple of years. One prompt per day, link to that post, that’s it. Details below.

But why should you participate in this challenge? To keep the ol’ fingers warm and meet up with an awesome blogging community, that’s why! Just Jot it January, AKA JusJoJan, is a challenge to write a post every day of the month of January. We’ve grown from a handful of participants in 2014 to close to fifty for the past couple of years. Let’s see if we can make it to sixty this year!

Here are the JusJoJan Rules:

1. Just Jot It January starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join in! Here, we run on the honour system; the “jot it” part of JusJoJan means that anything you jot down, anywhere (it doesn’t have to be a post, it can even be a grocery list), counts as a “jot.” If it makes it to your blog that day, great! If it waits a week to get from a sticky note to your screen, no problem!

2. I’ll post prompts at 2am my time (GMT -5). The prompt will be the word in quotation marks in the title of my 2am post. You don’t have to follow the prompt every day, but that will be where you leave your link for others to see. You’ll get a prompt for every day except Wednesday, when the prompt is simply my One-Liner Wednesday and on Saturday, when your prompt will be the Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS, which will appear at about 9:30am Friday. Each prompt post will include the rules.

3. Please ping back or link to the daily prompt. To ping back, just copy the URL from the daily prompt post, and paste it anywhere in your post. Check to make sure your link shows up where you want it to, and go back occasionally to see other bloggers’ entries – the more you visit others, the more they’ll visit you! Note: A) The newest pingbacks will be at the top of the comments section. B) Ping backs only work if you’re blogging on WordPress. Everyone else must paste a link manually.

4. Tag your post JusJoJan and/or #JusJoJan.

5. Write anything! Any length will do! It can even be a photo or a drawing – you’re going to title it, right? There’s your jot!

6. If your post is NSFW, do not ping back. Please leave your link in the comments with a warning.

7. If you’d like to, use the JusJoJan badge so that others can find your post more easily.
