Nora and her young son, Nicholas, were running through the wilderness. The greenery was lush, and it had rained recently, adding a shine to the leaves they had to brush aside in their dash across the trail on the other side of the tracks that ended so abruptly. Nora had no idea what had caused the desolation and the tracks to end like that. It must have been quite a while ago as the greenery had grown up through the rails.
The dogs were barking behind them, urging them on. They had to hurry. The danger was way too close.
