The lawyer, Mr. Zimmerman, had them all sit down around his desk as he closed the door to his office. He asked if they were comfortable or would they care for some coffee, tea or water? Mr. Zimmerman noticed what a wisp of a girl Ginny had become as the years took their toll on her mother and her. Life hadn’t been easy for the young girl with no kin except for the one aunt who seemed disinterested in her. He noticed her clinging to the young man’s hand as if afraid he would disappear on her as well.
Ginny’s skin was pale as if she hadn’t seen sunlight in years and for all he knew, she hadn’t. They appear as close as lover’s although her mother said she pledged to her to remain a virgin until she married. There was definitely a deep bond between them though She seemed to need his touch to keep her upright. Her expression was inquisitive, but she seemed to steel herself for reality. From her comments he understood her to believe she was not going to inherit anything but debt from her mother’s death.
By default the debt is usually passed down to the children upon a parent’s death. She didn’t know it yet, but she had cheated the tax man. Confusing as this was going to be for her to understand, the impossible wedding she was so carefully planning, was about to become the wedding of her dreams.
The lawyer watched the two of them for a while. It was refreshing to see two people who almost seemed to be one person in thought and deed. They were so easy with each other and he so tenderly took control of her whole soul and being as if they were indeed one person.
Now it was time to start the explanations. To bring joy to someone who is so lost in her loss of her only parent and at such a young age. There are no explanations as to why her mother, Caroline, was taken from this earth so early. Ginny will never understand that, but he had long hoped to be her father and he would have been if fate hadn’t stepped in and taken Caroline’s memory in the first stroke and there was no way that he could enter into the bond of matrimony with his beloved since she didn’t understand what was happening to her. Her memories were infrequent and she remembered him at times and not at other times. When she was lucid he would come spend time with her and deal with the legal end of things so Ginny was taken care of. He wished he had been there for the final stroke and the ending of her life here on earth. He wished he could hug Ginny now and console her with memories that he had of her mother and her life before that first stroke and maybe someday that would happen, but for now he must be the lawyer and take care of getting her situated legally and get her through the burial of her beloved mother.
