My smile:

I have made the decision to go ahead and have my books professionally edited so that way they will be ready if my life changes and I can publish them. Right now I have a lot of beta corrections to do and need to stop procrastinating and do it. I am getting the memoir that is already on my blog done as well. It’s small so not as costly. Now I have a good reason to write again. I have a deadline LOL!

    1. I guess I was thinking everyone knew what I meant. I had my novel read by beta readers for obvious mistakes and for feed back on setup and did they like it and a bunch of other questions. Now I have rewriting to do as they are coming back with their findings. I get the final say, but for the most part they are finding things that do need fixing. Then I will have a professional do the real editing on it. I have a lot of repeats and things out of order because I changed the story and didn’t take everything out that I should have and things ended up in the wrong place.

      1. I started by asking my youtube friends. I stream live and a lot of followers. Then I asked on my blog although the one person that responded did not send anything back that I know of. I still have to find the original document and see if there are changes on it and I wasn’t notified by google docs. You can ask your reader friends. If they like to read in your genre they might be willing to do it. It is work. They aren’t supposed to just read and say yes or no, I hated it or I loved it. You give them questions to answer to help them along and there is a place for open comments so they can highlight on google docs a section and then comment on it. Proofreading – some will and some won’t. The main thing is to find plot holes, out-of-order passages, and major stuff like that. Does the story drag? Did you skip any parts and why? Things like that. I found the questions online under beta readers and then selected the ones I liked and included them with the document I sent to each person. Each person had their own document to work on and comment on. I got maybe half of them back. The others all have excuses so I doubt I will ever see them. So I sent out about 10 requests (they all volunteered mind you, don’t send unsolicited manuscripts out) and got back about half of them. It helps a lot with things you can miss. One told me the cop wouldn’t be that friendly with a murder suspect and I think they are probably right. I didn’t see it while writing it though.
