Grab yourself a beverage and pull up a chair. If we were having coffee I would tell you that after 20 years I have finally gotten myself a new bed. I dropped from a full size to a twin bed which is a little strange to get used to after having a full bed all to myself for over 21 years. Plus it is firm and my back was feeling it at first. I wonder how I will feel tomorrow after sleeping on it all night. I bought the bed unseen. Since my foot is still in a walking boot and getting around so difficult I called a mattress store and asked if it was possible to buy a bed over the phone, pay for it and have it delivered, plus have the old bed taken away. They said yes and a couple of days later I have a new bed and Amazon delivered the bedding the night before even though it was due to be delivered on the same day. Everything worked out.

I am slowly working on my novel again. I have just over a week to stop tweaking it. I rewrote the beginning and the ending and hope I got all the repetition out of the middle.

I still have the walking boot on my foot as it hasn’t fully healed yet and I was supposed to get orthotics, but was told my Medicare will not cover it and I don’t have another $500 plus dollars lying around. I never got a chance to wear my new diabetic shoes with their inserts so he is going to try and form the inserts into a support for my foot. Till then and another x-ray I am still in a walking boot.

Monday I see my pain management doctor and I hope that he can find something to do about all of this pain now that I can’t take one of my pain meds because of the blood thinner for the blood clots. I can barely move now.

Have a great week everyone.

Lost Part 2 (Part 1)

by Tessa Dean June 2021

Nora and her son, Nicholas, were still racing across the wilderness, trying to get to safety. They had no idea who or what was chasing them. There were no paths, and they had to try and push their way as fast as possible through the thick greenery.

Up ahead was a small yellow hut. Someone had been there recently as the area surrounding it was swept clear. Could Nora and her son safely take a short break there? They hadn’t heard the dogs recently. Maybe there was time for a snooze.

As Nora pondered it, there was a dog’s bark.

#WRITEPHOTO – The Fisherman

The Fisherman – Image by KL Caley

For visually challenged writersthe image shows a long stretch of river with a bank at both sides. A Fisherman is present in the foreground his line cast out across the water.

**********

Long before the children came along my husband and I went fishing. It was pier fishing in salt water at that time and the kids grew up on the piers. After getting out of the Marine Corps we eventually ended up living on a lake and we switched to fresh water fishing and the kids were old enough to hold their own rods.

We fished in front of the house and we took canoe or boat trips and fished from the middle of the lake or small river. Along the edge of the water were butterflies and occasionally a light breeze would blow through the shady areas where we took canoe trips.

While deep sea fishing I was always afraid the rods and reels were fragile and would break under the weight of a super larger fish.

Now I was a “fair weather” fisherman. I only enjoyed it when the fish were biting and it wasn’t super blazing hot.

One thing I couldn’t do was bait the hook with a worm or take a fish off the hook. I left that to my husband. One day he had gone to work and the kids wanted to fish off the lake shore where we lived. I told them I am not baiting hooks or taking off fish. They assured me they would do it. I should have known better than to listen to kids. They finally got the hooks baited and so close to shore I doubted we would catch anything. Suddenly they were screaming and one of them had caught a fish.

Now the problem arose. I wasn’t touching it even with my foot on the fish and towel to grab the hook to pull it out. They weren’t going to do it.

There was nothing left to do, but to leave the rod and the squirming fish on the beach until their father got home. He wasn’t amused, but I don’t know what he expected. No more fishing until their father was around.
