Jack read and studied the background reports they had found on the professor, Nathaniel Greenstone. He is aghast at what he is reading and he agrees that this man deserves more than the slap it seems he has gotten since no one will come forward and testify against him. The man is slime and not the silly toys he had just gotten the twins.
He was no longer smiling. He had no jurisdiction unless Eileen filed a report, but he can’t just shrug off what he just found. He will have to question Eileen seriously and then explain that she needed to report this for anyone to take it seriously. They would, of course run their own checks on these incidents and each report would have to be reopened and the women involved would have to go back through the awful things they went through due to this man. He hated to do it, but the professor must be stopped. Glancing over at Eileen he could see her cowering in the corner. She no longer showed the desire she had shown earlier according to Scott and Sarah to put this man where he belonged. They were losing her. Sarah had gone to her side and was holding her trying to keep her with people who cared about her before she lost it all and had to be taken in to the hospital for observation and treatment. If that happened, nothing could be done to the professor. They needed a reason to start an investigation. She had to report this.
Scott went to his spouse and slipped his arms around her and Eileen, thankful their situation hadn’t ended quite this way. Although Ariana Carter was still out there and could start stalking him again. They had to help Eileen and Kyle right now.
Jack went back to the report and noticed that the man was definitely not homely. He was even preening for the camera. He could see why the women flocked to him. Jack bet even the shy women weren’t averse to him coming on to them.
A sudden wail broke the silence. The twins were awake. Scott told Sarah to stay where she was and he would handle it. Eileen needed her more than Ashleigh Rose and Jonathan did right now. He headed off to handle the twins.
Jack was pretty sure that Eileen would not welcome his suggestions right now, but he had to try. He walked over to the corner where she was sitting with Kyle and Sarah. He knew Kyle was her fiancé according to Scott so this had to be even harder on her. Maybe she was the link these women needed to help them come forward and testify against the professor. He didn’t know what to do about the death of the professor’s wife though. He didn’t think any of these coeds he abused and beat would know anything about his wife.
“Eileen,” Jack said softly. “You know I am a police detective here in Angel’s Cove. I would like to put this man behind bars where he belongs, but I need your help. I can’t do anything unless you file a report. Has he done anything physically to you at all? He has to have made physical contact.”
Eileen burst into tears. She was shaking in Sarah’s arms. Kyle moved over to try and take her into his embrace. So far she had said nothing. She suddenly stood up and pushed everyone away and ran from the room, almost knocking Scott over in her flight. They all moved to go after her, but Sarah said “No, leave her be. She needs time to process this. Her handbag and keys are still here so she isn’t going too far most likely.”
