What do you see # 131 – April 25,2022

Sadje’s rules:

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows two young girls standing outdoor looking at a book which both of them are holding jointly.

By Tessa Dean April 2022

“Monica and Suzanne, where are you?” Their mother, Karen, was shouting throughout the house. She had been in every room, so now she had to head outside to their huge yard.

Still shouting their names, Karen started in the front yard and, finding no sign of the girls, she headed around back. She told the girls to stay out of the backyard as it was mostly woods back there, and she didn’t like them exploring that area.

Karen saw flashes of color moving in the woods and shouted for the girls again. They were ignoring her, and she came up to them and found them studying a book of pictures. She caught sight of nudity, and she was surprised at them. She grabbed the book, and it was her teenager’s science book, and it just so happened that there were looking at the section on sex.

She tried explaining to the two young girls that they should not be looking at their brother’s school books. They had many questions and she knew it was time to explain sex to her girls, and she wasn’t looking forward to it.

Painted Ladies and Historic Buildings Weekend Coffee Share #66

Natalie’s Guidelines and newest post is here.

Thanks to Natalie, the Explorer, for hosting this prompt.

I would tell you that I am suffering from my allergies. It seems they are worse this year, and more people than ever are suffering from them. It doesn’t help my breathing.

Still impatiently waiting for word from the assisted living facility. I am not the most patient person in the world, and my nerves are raw.

My aide is waiting for the assisted living to open, too, since she hopes to work there.

I am not writing much, but I have been working on doing more each time. I doubt I will complete NANO this month. I only set a goal of 5000 words and I am almost halfway there which is more than I have been writing.

Have a great week, everyone.

The three young men struggled to get a peek at the provocatively dressed young woman as she loaded her car’s backseat with shopping bags. Her miniskirt rode up each time she reached into the vehicle.

She was unaware of the growing audience behind the store’s window. The men were talking among themselves about her outfit that was exposing more with every bag.

Love Hurts!

By Tessa Dean April 2022

Cathie watched in shock as her sister, Anjolie, and Mark, the man who was supposed to be her fiance, stopped at the opening in the walkway next to the lamp post and shared a passionate kiss. Anjolie pushed him away but didn’t stop him when he went to kiss her again.

Cathie couldn’t believe her sister was kissing Mark so passionately. She barely protested. They were so involved in their kiss that neither noticed Cathie watching them.

Cathie walked up to them and, after shouting “Creep!” she threw her engagement ring at Mark. She spat on her sister and left. Looking back, she found them on the ground, searching for the ring. It was obvious who was more important to him. He didn’t come after her. He just kept searching for the ring. With any luck, it bounced off of him and landed in the drainage grate. It would serve him right.

Odd Entrance

by Tessa Dean April 2022

“Gigi says we can’t miss it,” Juno said. His eyes are roaming the area dense with woods but with an eye out for the opening to the campground. He hadn’t seen a sign of any kind in the last 20 or so miles.

“There,” Carey says, pointing to a building that had been severely vandalized. “That would be the type of sign that would capture Gigi’s attention,” Carey shouts.

Juno slowed the van down and pondered their position. It didn’t look like a campground. He drove around the building, and there was a road just behind it and Gigi’s camper.

The Library!

By Tessa Dean April 2022

I was going through my library and suddenly found three rare books that I had no idea were there. I was going through the shelves selecting books that sounded interesting for an afternoon read and came across these 3 books I didn’t remember seeing before.

I wondered if they belonged to Sylvester. He was also a book collector, and I could see him coming across them in a book sale, maybe even an estate sale, and picking them up and just dropping them into our library.

They were in pretty good shape, so I would have to take them down to the antique store and see if they could tell me anything about them other than they are antiques. I will have to ask Sylvester where he got them. Maybe there are more. I am always on the lookout for old books.

Fiction, Prompt

Weekend Writing Prompt #254 – Yodel

Rules by SammiCoxWriter

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.

Word Prompt

Yodel

Challenge

wk 254 yodel

Weekend Writing Prompt #254: This weekend you challenge is to write a poem or a piece of prose in exactly 57 words using the word “Yodel”.

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

  • your poem / prose must contain this week’s word (see note below).  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
  • the length of your poem / prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.
  • A note on the word: you can use any variation of the word (for example: call, calls, calling, called etc).  If you find you are struggling to use this week’s word you may substitute it for a synonym – just include a note to explain the swap.  Remember, this is supposed to be fun!

Can’t wait to read what you have come up with!

**********

I can’t imagine learning to yodel. Not only do I find it annoying to listen to, but learning it seems impossible.

Now to be fair I never tried to learn it. I saw a how-to article on learning to yodel, but it didn’t keep my interest enough to begin with step one. Never mind step two/three.

#WeekendCoffeeShare, Non-Fiction, Prompt

What’s Blooming at Allan Gardens? Weekend Coffee Share #64

Natalie’s Guidelines and newest post is here.

Coffee, Pen, Notebook, Caffeine, Cup
Picture compliments of Pixabay.com

Thanks to Natalie, the Explorer, for hosting this prompt.

Grab yourself a beverage and pull up a chair. If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my dad is still hanging in here despite being put on Hospice Care before Christmas with little time expected to live.

I would tell you that I went to the Emergency Room on March 12th, and I didn’t have Covid, but I did have the Flu, and it seemed to take forever to go away, and I still have occasional symptoms. The doctor wanted me to possibly have another Covid test, but the antibiotic he added to the mix seemed to help. I think I had another case of bronchitis. They have the same symptoms almost.

Still impatiently waiting for word from the assisted living facility. I am not the most patient person in the world, for sure, and my nerves are raw between waiting for an answer from the facility and waiting on word about my father. It has been months now, and still no word. I tried calling twice, and it got me nowhere. I found an email address and was told they still don’t have their state license.

And at least I still have an aide who comes steadily, even if it is way too early for me. She arrives at 7 AM, and I am a night person.

I am not writing much, I have switched to reading. I have found an author whose stories I like, but her characters suck. I am still reading them and I am almost finished her current sets of series. It’s her main characters that I don’t like. Supporting characters are fine.

Have a great week, everyone.
