Convention

by Tessa Dean April 2022

My husband set us up for a business convention. We got to the motel and found the place was a wreck. Room service arrived on lunchroom trays and didn’t look very edible.

“Why did you book us here, Roger? This place is a dump. What kind of convention is this?”

“It is supposed to be a business startup convention, and I figured it would help us. I booked the room through the convention.”

“We can’t afford a convention, so what were you thinking?”

We need help getting started.”

“More money wasted for nothing gained,” I shouted at him, tears starting.

  1. I’m not sure that he’s going to get much help from this convention if the standard of the accommodation is anything to go by. You’ve summed up their situation very well through this dialogue – I can feel her frustration, but I can’t help but admire Roger for trying to get ahead.

    1. Thank you. The bad thing is that there are things out there like that. They promise a lot for just a little bit of money, but as they say you get what you pay for. I have fallen for stuff like this while trying to start an online business. I fell for it like 3 times before I was broke and finally aware of the fact that it was a rip-off.

  2. Oh dear, looks like he didn’t get the deal he thought he did. It’s hard enough to start up without being sold a dummy.
I was a bit confused by who Rhonda was at the end as the rest was in first person. Is that a typo, or did they bring along a daughter / mother too?

    1. I am not sure. I might have screwed up. I haven’t been writing in quite a while and I make more and more mistakes as time goes on. Aging is difficult LOL! I will have to check it out. Thanks!
