Puppy Woes

By Tessa Dean

“Jennifer, get inside the dining room and set the tables. It’s time to serve lunch,” her mother yelled from the back door.

“Oh, Ma, do I have to,” Jennifer asked whiningly. “There’s a puppy out here, and it is so cute. Can we keep it?”

“Listen, you know we can’t afford a dog. Get those tables set so we can start serving lunch.”

Jennifer snuck the puppy inside and started setting tables.

There’s a shriek from the kitchen, and then the puppy runs out with two steaks in its mouth, an angry cook behind it. “Now, you’ve done it, Jennifer!”

Butt-Warming

By Tessa Dean

Glancing around at the properly dressed people waiting in line at the showing of the new year’s “Artist of the Month,” Sarah felt out of place. Sean was wearing a tuxedo, a gorgeous pinstripe, but she had on a short, white dress, her favorite. She wore it frequently, and if you looked close enough, you would notice a few stains from her wine.

Her hair was pulled up off her neck rather than simply hanging like she usually wore it, but it had been just shoved into place with a few pins to hold it up. She didn’t have the money to have it done properly by a hairstylist.

The waiter was coming by with another tray of wine glasses, and Sarah was going to reach for another one when Sean squeezed her hand, a simple response to tell her no, that she already had enough. She pouted prettily at him, but she knew that later, there would be more wine at his place.

The line moved, and they were inside the building. This artist was up and coming. His paintings were old-fashioned but well done. The colors were vibrant.

As they stood there staring at the huge frame in front of them, she felt Sean move and place his hand on her butt-cheek. In shock, she almost forgot they were in the public eye. His hand was massaging gently, and her dress was creeping up even higher. She started to sink into him. Abruptly he pulled his hand away, and she almost fell. She glared at him. He winked. “Later,” he whispered into her ear.

The Weekly Smile for the 19th of October, 2020

This weeks smile is that I got my appetite back and although I did gain a few pounds, I had lost over 15 lbs in just over 2 weeks, so gaining a few back is not a big deal.

And She’s Off

By Tessa Dean October 2020

Marjorie’s blond curls bounced as she made her way to the pink boat moored at the marina. Today was a school holiday, and Marjorie and her mother had come to the bay to look around. It wasn’t long before Marjorie had slipped her small hand out of her mother’s and took off running towards the water.

“Marjorie, no!” her mother shouted while a pickpocket tried to grab her purse. She looked up, just in time to see her child sailing away on the pink boat. She threw her purse at the guy and ran, screaming at the boat to stop.

I am so glad to be out of the hospital and in my own bed although I am spending more than 18 hours at a time in it.

(I have sleep apnea and have had it for 15-20 years and if I don’t get it under control it just might kill me, no kidding. The doctor was dead serious, no pun intended.)

The Weekly Smile for the 12th of October, 2020

The Weekly Smile for the 12th of October, 2020

My smile for this week is finally getting out of the hospital after 6 weeks. (I actually got out on October 1, but I was feeling really bad and didn’t do much except sleep which is weird since all I did in the hospital was sleep as well.). People would stand there calling my name and I would sleep right through it and then one brilliant nurse got this idea that maybe she could check my blood sugar without waking me up. I doubt she will try that one again. I came up punching. I am so done with hospitals right now. I thought 10 days was bad, but 6 weeks takes the cake. At least I got out before my birthday.

News Flash – Just spent 6 weeks in hospital

It wasn’t good news. I have congestive heart failure. I was on oxygen and it took almost 4 weeks in a rehab hospital to wean me off the oxygen. I still have some problems breathing, coughing, temperature (some possibly due to a flu shot), swelling in the feet and legs. I had four Covid 19 tests. All negative. They are very painful. I haven’t felt like writing and after 6 weeks in bed 24 hours a day, most days, I am having a hard time readjusting to the real world.

I have to find a cardiologist now. I have to have another sleep test since my sleep apnea is slowly shutting down my organs and I need to get it under control.

I got my hearing aids today although I am feeling scared to put them in.

I have a huge list of doctors to see. This is not helping my depression.
