SYWCovidDoc

Welcome to Share Your World!

Melanie’s Rules:

I will post four or five different questions each week for you to answer.  There are two ways which you can participate.

  1. Create a Share Your World post.  Then post the link to that blog post or leave your answers in the comments box of my blog.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your post, title your blog post “Share Your World”  and link it to this post.
  3.  Ping-backs are activated, but how efficiently varies.  I don’t manually approve them, but sometimes they don’t show up immediately.  Why is an unsolved mystery.   For instructions on how ping-backs work, in case you weren’t certain, please click here.  You may wish to leave a link to your blog post in the comments just to be sure.  Thanks!

Oddball Questions:

Is cereal soup? Why or why not? Why in the world would cereal be soup. Just because it is usually filled with milk (liquid)? I don’t get it at all. I would say NO!

What are some interesting ways to answer everyday questions like “how’s it going” or “what do you do”? “I sleep most of my life away.” “It’s going!”

What was your favorite toy growing up? I had a realistic looking soft doll baby and I loved it. It was about the size of a real baby so I could use real baby clothes on it.

If you have a pet, and you could ask it three questions, what would you ask? Do you really like that dog or cat food you gobble down? Are you bored? Do you wish you had arms and legs like a human?

Non-Fiction, Prompt

Reena’s Exploration Challenge 161

Reena’s Exploration Challenge 161

PROMPT #161

We celebrate Diwali – the festival of lights in India, while America celebrates a new President.

Light can mean different things to different people, just like the election results in any country.

James Baldwin says,

One discovers the light in the darkness,
 that is what darkness is for;
but everything in our lives depends
on how we bear the light.
It is necessary, while in darkness,
to know that there is a light somewhere,
 to know that in oneself,
waiting to be found, there is a light.
What the light reveals is danger,
and what it demands is faith.

I invite you to meditate on light this week, and share your take on the subject.

The piece you generate can be fiction, poetry, essay, art, photographs or anything else that your creativity brings forth.

Write a post on your blog, and copy-paste the link in Comments. In case you are using a pingback, do check back to see if it has worked.

Last, but not least, don’t forget to tag the post “Reena’s Exploration Challenge” for easy location in the blog roll.

Briefly, for the last few days, I have had light in my life. I know it won’t last because mania is not supposed to last, and my medication is supposed to prevent it, but sometimes it just happens. Usually, it is when it is triggered. My trigger right now is a new computer that not only lets me write my novel for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), but it makes it easier for me to do live streams on YouTube. I have been so excited I have written over 8000 words, maybe more, and done several non-planned live streams, and one of them lasted over 9 hours, now that is exciting and, for me, light!

He Shouldn’t Have Missed Curfew

By Tessa Dean November 2020

It was an hour past my curfew, and I know my mom would be furious. There was nothing I could do, but ready myself for my punishment. Mom was very inventive when it came to punishments. I dragged my feet down the street. I was already late, so why rush the inevitable.

I could see the light on in the living room and her face pressed against the glass peering out, looking for me I knew. I didn’t move any faster. I was still dreading this. Then as I watched, I saw her slide down out of sight. What just happened?

I started to hurry. Had Ma fainted? She wasn’t prone to fainting, but what else could have happened? I raced across the yard and reached the door. I pushed on it, but it wouldn’t budge. She must have fallen against it.

I turned and ran to the side of the house to the window and peered in. “Ma? Ma? No, Ma, please, no.” I smashed the window and climbed inside, not noticing the cuts from the broken glass. The blood, there was so much blood. I raced across the room and turned her over. Her throat was slit. Her eyes were lifeless.

I hurried upstairs to check on my little brother. He was dead in bed. Blood everywhere, his throat slit and his eyes also lifeless.

I was in shock. Who could have done this? Oh God, what if they were still here? I got up and started back downstairs to look for the phone. Ma’s cellphone would most likely be in her pocket, which meant he would have to touch her again.

Searching quickly, he picked up the phone and ran back outside, and stood in the middle of the street while dialing 9-1-1. He screamed into the phone that his Ma and little brother had been murdered, their throats slit. There was blood everywhere, and he was all alone, and he needed help. “Oh God, please help me,” he whispered into the phone and sank to the asphalt on the street. Sirens sounded in the distance.

The Weekly Smile for the 16th of November, 2020 #weeklysmile

I am smiling at my new computer. It finally came in on Thursday and my daughter brought it over here. There is still a lot to do on it, but I have been doing my live streams on it and for the most part it works great. There is a little bit of difference in how I have to do things since everything is now on one computer, but I am still smiling. Keep forgetting the touchscreen so still using the mouse LOL!

Honey, It’s Warm Outside

by Tessa Dean

Robby threw the tangled tree lights back into the box, disgusted. “Why are we dragging these out now,” he complained. “It isn’t even Thanksgiving yet.”

Sally picked up the string of lights and started to untangle it. “Robby, it is 75 degrees outside today. Would you rather be hanging these up when it drops to near zero?”

Pondering that thought, Robby began to pile up the boxes and carry them outside. Grandpa followed with the last box. “Thanks, Grandpa,” Robby said. “Sometimes, Ma is pretty smart for a girl.”

“Don’t talk about your mother that way, young man,” Grandpa said.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 14/2020

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 14/2020

2019-2020 SoCS Badge by Shelley! https://www.quaintrevival.com/

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ring.” Use it as a noun, a verb, an adverb, or an adjective…use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

*****************************************************

I found myself divorced and I still possessed the wedding ring. I didn’t know what to do with it. I have been divorced 21 years and that stupid ring is till sitting in front of my face on my computer desk shelf. I tried to sell it, but it wasn’t worth anything. That should tell you something right there. It was a gold band with diamond chips all the way around. I didn’t have a real engagement ring and set because the first one we got was dirt cheap and you could almost break the metal by twisting it. My ex lost his ring almost immediately whether on purpose or not I still don’t now. So he bought me this second ring and it wasn’t worth crap either. So here it sits. I can’t bring myself to toss it and it isn’t worth anything and so I torment myself by looking at the ring box.

I remember just before we got divorced that I had been at work and the ring was loose and I tossed scrap plastic in the bin and the ring went flying. I had them shut the line down while I looked for it piece by piece in the scrap bin. Several people helped me and I couldn’t find it and I started to cry (obviously I still had feelings about the upcoming divorce). They got ready to start the line up again and just then I picked up some scrap to put back in the bin and the ring was caught up in the pile of containers. Talk about relief. I don’t know why I am so attached to the stupid ring. I could care less about the man who gave it to me.

DAY
AFTER
SPIRIT

**********

The day after Marjie and Randy spent the night at the haunted house they went back during the daytime. “This place doesn’t look so scary during the day, ” Marjie joked. Just then a spirit of an old woman walked across the front porch and into the house by the front door. Marjie and Randy lost no time getting out of there. They grabbed their bikes and ran as fast as their legs would carry them.

Stopping when they had reached the end of the road they tried to slow their breathing down so they could talk. “Who was that,” Randy managed to get out.

“I don’t know. Thankfully we didn’t see her last night.”

Share Your World 11-9-2020

Thanks!

Questions:

  1.  Do you like or dislike surprises? Why or why not? I hate surprises. I know there could be some good ones, but there are bad ones as well. I would rather not have either.
  2. What’s your favorite zoo animal? Black Panthers, beautiful, black, sleek animals. And cats are my favorite pets.
  3.  What three things do you think of the most each day? When can I go back to bed? What do I feel like doing now? Is there something in this house I feel like eating. I am not eating much and losing weight which is good, but losing it a little too fast, but the dr thinks that could be due to the water pill I have to take every day.

‘Deep’ Question

4. When, if ever, is taking a human life justified? I really don’t think taking a life is ever justified, but and yes there is a but. If I were to be fighting for my life, although it would horrify me greatly I would have to do it to save my own life. I do not believe in abortion in any case. Abortion is murder and a fetus is alive from its inception.
