#WeekendCoffeeShare – Writing Challenge

WeekendCoffeeShare – Writing Challenge – Youtube and Writing

Coffee, Pen, Notebook, Caffeine, Cup

Hey everyone, this is Teresa Smeigh from www.tessacandoit.com and I am posting on my new blog www.tessadeanauthor.com. I am writing with a pen name now.

Thanks to Eclectic Alli for hosting this prompt.

If we were having coffee, for one thing I wouldn’t have coffee as I don’t drink it and it is way too hot anyhow. I am mainly drinking water only or occasionally I will make a pitcher of ice tea. You can choose your poison.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I won NaNoWriMo and hit my goal on July 23. I am still working diligently on the novel I started. It is a thriller and I am obsessed with the story and it has kept me working even though the month is over and I usually quit whatever I started writing for the month. I love this story and am working hard at it. I am over 40,000 words already. It might not make full novel length so might just be a novella, but I am working to actually finish it. I have never completed anything I started on NaNoWriMo and this looks like I might actually complete it. It will most likely be posted on my blog or WattPad as a second choice. I have my own blog so not sure I will post it on WattPad.com. However, I still have a ways to go until completion so I will make a decision then.

My dad has recovered from Covid-19 my sister and I went to the nursing home to visit. Visitation is being allowed by the governor but must be held outside and within social distancing guidelines. Fine with us since we have no desire to go inside the building which is riddled with the virus.

I had the third injection on my spine and I am in worse pain than the first two. This was the absolute worst one. I spent most of Thursday and Friday recovering.

I am a dummy and got lured into one of the Medicare scams going around. I wasn’t doing my best and they got me. I had to call Medicare and get a new number due to fraud and now dealing with changing the number at all my doctors, pharmacy, etc. Plus I have to watch my claims to see when they try to use it. I got the items Saturday and I had to refuse them unopened and return them. Now we watch for any wrongful claims. Hopefully within a month or so this will pass as they no longer will accept that number and if it slips by they will retract any payments. I already know they aren’t accepting the number as I got a notice from the pharmacy that they couldn’t fill my Part B prescriptions due to the number change.

Everyone be aware. Scams are everywhere and they prey on those of us on Medicare more. I wasn’t as vigilant as usual and they are getting smarter. They played me and won, but I realized it almost immediately and called Medicare (requesting a new number and they don’t always approve that so I had to wait and see, but they did approve the change) and then reported it to the state attorney general, the Federal Trade Commission and my local police.

Be safe everyone,

Haikai Challenge #151 (8/9/20): first (autumn) storm (hatsu arashi) / Darkness (Yami) #haiku #senryu #haibun #tanka #haiga #renga

Thunder, Lightning, Storm, Sky, Night

As Isaias struck in August, the first Autumn month of the traditional calendar, what better kigo could there be than first (autumn) storm (hatsu arashi)? As the storm caused blackouts that still plague other parts of the New York Metropolitan area, what better kigo can there be than darkness (Yami)? Therefore, haijin, you have a choice this week.

Write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that alludes to either the first (autumn) storm (hatsu arashi), Darkness (Yami), or both!

A colorless world. To someone with Bipolar Disorder life itself, at its very essence can seem dull and colorless. Only recently have I felt as if the color has re-entered my world. I am doing something I want to do just for me. I am creating youtube videos, editing them and doing live streaming on my channel about writing. I am involved in a story that has taken hold of my imagination and is taking me out of that colorless world I resided in. I feel alive and it is such a unique experience for someone like me. Mental illness robs your life of color, but it is possible to get it back at some points. I can’t say what tomorrow will bring, but today my world is no longer black and white, or even gray. There is color at the edges and moving inwards to fill that void in my head.

This week’s prompt ~ Fantasy

For visually challenged writers, the image shows a green landscape of rolling hills and an island in a bay. In the foreground, pastel-painted buildings and a tall clock tower are surrounded by summer trees.

Shade Trees

By Tessa Dean August 2020

Trixie was carefully checking the area out. She was looking for a new home, and she wanted to be near the water as her boyfriend, Mark, loved to fish, and so did her two young sons, Randy and Ross. Mark was willingly teaching them how to fish. It didn’t matter to him that they were only four years old. He loved them both dearly, so much more than their father did it would seem. He loved to spend time with them.

She was approaching a row of homes that appeared to be facing the water’s edge. She couldn’t tell much from the back if the homes had the requirements the men and boys were looking for in their new home.

Trixie didn’t care either way since fishing wasn’t her idea of a great time. In her fantasy, she was looking for a waterfront view and shady trees so she could lie there and spend her spare time reading. Laughing at that, Trixie realized just how little time she would have for that little fantasy with four-year-old twin boys to take care of and usually by herself since their father didn’t have the time to spend with them he claimed.

The realtor was chatting away, and Trixie let her voice roll over her. She couldn’t wait until they got to the front of the house they were here to see. She was looking for a place to call their own with just the right requirements.

They headed down the path to the front of the row of houses. Trixie gasped at the beauty spread before her. The house they were heading to had a tiny little pier out front and huge elm trees in the front yard that provided lots of shade. She could hang a hammock out there, and the men and boys could fish.

“This is it,” Trixie exclaimed to the realtor. “This is the one I want. Please start the paperwork. I want to move in right away.”

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Aug. 8/2020

2019-2020 SoCS Badge by Shelley! https://www.quaintrevival.com/

This is Teresa Smeigh from www.tessacandoit.com writing under a pen name. I am now using Tessa Dean and my new website/blog is www.tessadeanauthor.com.

Linda’s prompt: Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “spot.” Write whatever image the word “spot” invokes. Have fun!

When I think of “spot” I think of the mascot of one of our local newspapers. “Spot” the dog used to come out to one of the addresses and it could be anywhere in the newpaper’s circulation. If the homeowner/renter’s spotted “Spot” the dog walking around the property and approached them, they would win the current jackpot.

Our address had been picked since I had been featured in the paper for an article they did on my job moving out of state and how we would be without our jobs. My husband spotted the dog figure moving around in our yard and approached him. They asked for me and since I had just gotten home from the midnight shift at work I was already in bed, but he came and got me and told me that “Spot” was outside and I needed to come out. We were just getting ready to leave on a trip for the Bahamas and our little jackpot of $400 was definitely appreciated. Our picture as a family, was taken with “Spot” and it was posted in the newspaper. Ahh the memories!

Time to get back into the saddle!

It is time to get back into the habit of posting on my blog regularly. I got out of the habit as I have been feverishly working on my work in progress from NaNoWriMo. I can’t believe how excited I am with this project. It is around 40,000 words so far and I am not sure it will be a full novel length, but I am working hard on it while at the same time doing live streams and videos for youtube. I have 58 subscribers to my youtube channel so far and I am stoked. Here’s the link to my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSpNS-6gfJ0s8eD1berLwQg

My current work in progress is a thriller. It has been so much fun planning and writing this. I have never written a thriller before. I kept changing my villain, but there are clues pointing to all the main characters so you will have no idea who did it, if I did it right, of course.

I am sorry to have fallen behind with my blog posts, but I am super busy with my writing and youtube videos and live streams. Plus editing my videos for youtube is time consuming and I am still learning editing on top of all the rest of the stuff I am doing. I am getting over the awkwardness now and so it is getting more fun to do.

Good thing I don’t work. I can’t fit in all I want to do now.

Questions:

What song always gets you out on the dance floor? “The Twist” by Chubby Checker

What’s your favorite sleeping position? On my left side, curled up.

If you could snap your fingers and instantly make the world better, what would you do? Get rid of the Covid-19, replace our government and stop the wars. I think they all go hand in hand.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done, and why did you do it? Went snorkeling and only because my ex-husband demanded that I do it while we were on vacation in the Bahamas. I was absolutely terrified and the giant angel fish going after food since they are used to being fed, was the worse thing. I won’t even put my hand in a fish tank and now I was swimming in a giant fish tank.

#WeekendCoffeeShare – Writing Challenge

Coffee, Pen, Notebook, Caffeine, Cup

Hey everyone, this is Teresa Smeigh from www.tessacandoit.com and I am posting on my new blog www.tessadeanauthor.com. I am writing with a pen name now.

Thanks to Eclectic Alli for hosting this prompt.

If we were having coffee, for one thing I wouldn’t have coffee as I don’t drink it and it is way too hot anyhow. I am mainly drinking water only or occasionally I will make a pitcher of ice tea. You can choose your poison.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I am working on my new novel for NaNoWriMo and keeping slightly ahead of target for the month. I count anything to do with writing in my 3 hours a day goal. If I am writing great. If I am watching a how-to video that is also great. As long as it deals with writing it is fine. Still trying to come up with a title for the book. That is proving a little harder as the subject leads to titles used a few times already which I am told you can’t copyright a title so that isn’t a problem, but I would like something a little different. It has a working title of “Dangerous Obsession.”

My dad has recovered from Covid-19 and on Wednesday night my sister and I are going to the nursing home to visit. Visitation is being allowed by the governor but must be held outside and within social distancing guidelines. Fine with us since we have no desire to go inside the building which is riddled with the virus.

I tossed the outline I struggled all of June with and am pantsing my books as usual. It is in my head and there is no need for an outline. All I really need is a list of character names as they get confusing at times and their relation to the protagonist. Still trying to figure out how to use different POVs (point of view) because I think that will add some necessary parts of the story that would be missing if I was just telling it with a narrator, the protagonist. I need to get inside the heads of those other characters.

I had the second injection on my spine and I am in worse pain than the first one. I spent most of today lying down to ease the pain. Sitting is uncomfortable for long periods of time. I also have to wear a back brace for timed periods throughout the day. This could increase the pain.

Be safe everyone,
