*****Cassie’s Point of View*****

Kimberley was outside staring at the evening sky. Despite the snow the other day, the weather was mild and she took the time to do some reflecting. She was still worried about Cassie. She was glad that she hadn’t gone on the date the other night because she had her own misgivings about this Wayne she had raved about. Suddenly he was texting her constantly to see how she was feeling and wondering when they would be going on their date. A complete reversal. She just didn’t trust him and he wouldn’t even come to the house to meet mom. He insisted she meet him at the restaurant. Although they would still be in public, there were still some things that could go wrong. He also refused to meet Cassie’s friends. Why? She knew he was older but what was the harm in at least meeting them.

“Kimberley I have to go to work. Can you please come inside and watch the babies?”

“Are you sure you want to work tonight, Cassie. You look terrible. You might frighten the customers away.”

“Ha ha, very funny!” Cassie left for work, preparing herself to deal with customers. Some of them were downright nasty and she had others, her regulars who she actually cared for. They always tipped well and she was a natural flirt and that always got to the single guys and a few girls for that matter. She hoped the shift passed quickly.

*****Wayne’s Point of View*****

Wayne started gathering the necessary supplies. “The smug bitch will get what she deserved, muttered under his breath.” He emptied a small box and replaced it with the items he would need. He examined the vial he had kept in his pocket as a reminder that women were bitches and couldn’t be trusted. Now she would find out just what crossing him would bring her. He knew she was supposed to work tonight and according to butch, who had stopped by the restaurant to check, her car was there and parked in its usual spot way in the back and away from the outside lighting. The lighted area was parking for customers only.

Wayne grabbed the box which he had all his necessary equipment in and he, Butch and Rocky piled into the gray, nondescript van. They pulled into the parking lot and parked near to Cassie’s car and waited for her shift to end. She would probably come out with some of her coworkers so he had to make the meeting look like a chance meeting and keep her occupied talking until the others left the area. He needed to ask about her migraine and how she felt and not bring up the date unless she did. He couldn’t figure women out.

He saw Cassie exit the back of the building and head toward her car. Surprisingly she was alone. She slowed down when she saw the van next to her car. Wary now, she took out her keys and held them ready to open her door.

Wayne stepped out of the van and confronted her. “Hey doll, how are you feeling?” He saw Cassie’s eyes widen as Butch and Rocky joined him. He pulled her towards him as if to kiss her and Rocky injected the Ketamine into her butt to control her and a second injection to knock her out. Together the three of them backed up to the van and loaded her onto the comforter in the back and wrapped it around her. They didn’t waste time. They had the snatch and grab well practiced and within 5 minutes she was stowed in the van.

*****Peter’s Point of View*****

What the heck? Peter had been following Cassie around since she broke up with him. According to many, he was stalking her, whatever he thought. She had just left work and a man approached her from the van parked beside her. He spoke to her and she seemed to know him as she didn’t back away from him as he spoke. He wondered if this was the boyfriend he had kept hearing about. She suddenly leaned into him and it looked like they were kissing from his viewpoint. He and his two friends seemed to be supporting her when they put her in the back of his van. Something wasn’t right and he made the decision to follow them to make sure she was ok. He started the truck which was so old it was noisy and wondered if he had alerted them to his presence. They didn’t seem to notice and started out of the parking lot. Peter was following slowly trying to keep a car between them.

Wayne followed for several miles before he saw the turn signal up ahead, but just then the car in front of him jammed on their brakes and Peter, not noticing, rammed their rear end hard. He was thrown back in his seat and lost sight of where the van had turned. He only knew it was up above him somewhere on Grant Street. He didn’t know if this was the final destination, but wouldn’t find out now as he had to deal with the accident and the police, but he was going to tell them what he had noticed. Cassie may be in trouble. He only remembered part of the license plate so that wasn’t a whole lot of help and that it was an old gray Chevy van. Not much detail to go on.

*****Cassie’s Point of View*****

“Cassie,” her sister Kimberley patted the bed beside her. “Come sit here beside me and tell me what’s wrong.”

“Oh, Kimberley, I don’t think I can do it. I am so afraid he was the one to send me the drugged candy. Before he kept putting me off and now he is starting to push hard for this date. I no longer know what to think and I don’t want to do something stupid. His current actions are effectively pushing me away.” Tears started coursing down Cassie’s cheeks, dripping on to her new top.

“Look, only you can make the decision on what to do. I say if you are this miserable that you shouldn’t go. You obviously have some misgivings and I doubt you will enjoy yourself if you are this worried. Cancel the date. He will either back off or try again if he really cares for you.”

“I know you are probably right, but I practically begged him for this date and now I am thinking of canceling it. What is he going to think?”

“Don’t worry about it. Cancel it and like I said if he really cares for you he will understand and wait until you are ready. Don’t give this guy so much power over you. Tell him you have a migraine and need to lie down.”

Cassie’s fingers hover over her cell phone. She quickly typed the text and hit send before she could change her mind.

*****Wayne’s Point of View*****

“Damn! The bitch canceled the date. Claims she has a migraine. Migraine my ass. She begged me to date her and now she backs out at the last minute. This is one reason I hate women.” Rocky and butch knew better than to say anything. Wayne was liable to kick their asses if they made any comments. Wayne quickly types a message back about how sorry he was to hear she didn’t feel well and that they would reschedule as soon as she felt better. He rubbed the bottle in his pocket again. “Damn bitch has no idea what she has done.”

Cassie had a problem. The longer she waited to hit the send text button, the harder it was going to be. It gave her more time to ponder her problem. She no longer trusted her own instincts. Her instincts, since the drugged candy, said to tell Wayne no date. She didn’t know him well enough. Part of her thought he was the one behind the drugged candy although she didn’t know why he would do such a thing. She had spent so much time pondering what to do.

**********Cassie’s POV**********

Unable to get over the feeling that she was being naïve in thinking that Wayne really wanted to date her, Cassie struggled with sending him the text message that she was on the way. Glancing out the window at the park across the street she wished she could escape to her favorite running trail. Running always soothed her, however today she would get drenched by the rain so even if she had the time, she didn’t run in the rain usually. Plus she was all dressed up for her date. There would be no running today.

She stood up before she started to snooze again. She had to make a decision and now. If she went on the date she would have to put on one hell of a performance as she wasn’t really sure she wanted to see him now. How could her feelings have changed so much? She knew why and that was because she half accepted that he was behind the drugged candy and couldn’t shake that feeling.

What to do? What to do? She kept turning it over in her mind. She typed out the text that she was leaving, but didn’t push send right away. What little sun had come out had disappeared behind the woods already. It was time to get a move on. Once she pushed send she would quickly text her friends to be ready. Oh why couldn’t she just push the send button already?

**********Wayne’s POV**********

Wayne was already in the area before the restaurant entrance. He was sipping a beer and thinking ahead to the fun he had in mind. His thoughts were erratic and he was back in the groove again. Cassie would be in proximity soon. He went back over his steps and he checked off comforter stowed in the van with his friends. He looked at the garden beside the restaurant’s entrance and most of the slushy stuff had disappeared.

A party bus pulled up and the driver opened the door manually from the outside and a bunch of teenagers were leaping out row by row. He was glad he and Cassie wouldn’t be here tonight. He wondered if it was coincidental that so many teenagers were here tonight. Did Cassie have a bunch of her friends here for support? He started looking for the four of her friends he was familiar with.

Kimberley shook Cassie’s shoulder. “Wake up sis. You’re going to be late for your date. No more snoozing.”

Cassie shakes her head and tries to wake herself up. She had been almost sound asleep actually. She looked at the time. “I need to send Wayne a text when I leave. He is supposed to wait for me outside the restaurant so we can go in together. I am kind of glad we are driving separately. I still have this little feeling of doubt about this whole thing. Part of me wants to call Wayne and tell him I’m sick. I wish I could shake this feeling. Do you think I am crazy to have so much doubt? I also have to text my friends and make sure they are in place. I have two of them going to be inside eating dinner and two of them outside to make sure I leave and get home okay. I am probably being very paranoid, but there’s that little feeling of doubt that just won’t go away.”

Cassie ran her fingers through her hair as if trying to fix it, but her hair looked perfect already. She chewed on her fingernail while checking her phone for a text message from Wayne saying he was canceling their date. So far the date was still on. She wondered what area outside the restaurant he would be waiting for her. Since he didn’t say parking lot specifically she figured it would be near the front door.

“I can just imagine Cassie now gearing up for a big row about me not calling her or returning her calls often enough. She seems the type to harp on a subject. Although she won’t be in any condition to fight about anything right away,” Wayne tells his two life-long friends, Rocky and Butch. He unconsciously fingers the bottle again.

**********Cassie’s Point of View**********

“Hey Kimberley come look at this. I don’t remember that strange table being in the park a few weeks ago when I was over there. From its proximity, I would have thought we would have noticed it either from this window or coming in and out of the apartment.”

Kimberley was struggling to remember if she had noticed it before or not. It sure was a strange table. “Do you think someone might be having some kind of party over there? I would expect a picnic table in the woods though.

**********Wayne’s Point of View – using 44 word prompt “yonder”***

Wayne looked yonder out his apartment window to the parking lot. The good news is that it had stopped snowing, but the bad news was that now there was a drenching rain. The vehicles were clear of snow now, but the sidewalks were slushy.

**********Cassie’s Point of View**********

There was still time until she had to leave to meet up with Wayne for the date. She stared out the window and saw that the snow had stopped, but the drenching rain was making the sidewalks very slushy and she was attempting to wear 4-inch heels for this first date.

Kimberley had joined her at the window and looking at the resulting slush says, “Maybe you should wear those sexy black boots you have. They have a smaller heel and some grippers in the bottoms. I’d hate to see you fall walking in those heels in that slushy mess.”

Cassie, thinking about that possibility says, “You are probably right. I can’t believe it was just a couple of weeks ago I was running on the trails across the street. I hadn’t run for a while and it was actually fun and I was able to forget about the the whole incident with the drugged candy for a while, anyhow. I get sick every time I think how close the babies came to possibly eating that candy as well. What kind of creep would do that kind of thing?”

Cassie went to the closet they shared and pulled out her boots. They were black ankle boots with a belted strap and side zipper. The heel was thick and only two inches tall. They also had a rubber outsole which would help keep her from slipping in the slush and if it got colder and started to freeze it would also help keep her from sliding on the ice. Not as sexy as the heels, but still pretty sexy compared to a snow boot.

#threethingschallenge, #Whatdoyousee, Book, Fiction, Photo Prompt, Prompt

An FYI on my current writing

I started my very first novel in July 2020 and then rewrote it for November 2020 NANOWRIMO. Now I have gone through the beta readers and am editing it prior to getting a professional edit. I will not be publishing this book for you to buy, but once done it will be published on this blog in its entirety. This one novel has now become a series. I created a fictional small town and these will be their mysteries and murders.

Books two and three are partially started and that is what you have been reading on here although these serial prompts (as I call them) are not the total story and may change while actually doing the full writing for the book. You are seeing bits of it. They will also be published on this blog eventually.

I want people to enjoy my writing, but regular publishing, both traditional and Indie, aren’t for me right now due to financial considerations. BUT I still want people to enjoy them.

These two serial prompts are brought about by:

“The three things challenge”

Rochelle’s “Friday Fictioneers”

Sadje’s “What Do You See?” Look under categories

Reena”s “Exploration Challenge”

Sammi’s “Weekend Writing Prompt”

New to Writing – #WritePhoto

These are just some of the prompts I follow (and can use for these stories), but not all of them can be used in my current work. Check them out if you like writing to prompts. These are some of my favorites, but my favorites are not limited to these particular ones. There are so many prompt sites out there, but I can’t write for them all sadly, especially if I want to write books too. I have about 8 books planned for this series so far. Some of them are old NANOWRIMO books I never finished or did anything with and some like books two and three are made from serial prompts. And actually book one uses many of my older serial prompts put together to form the story.

And for anyone looking for horror prompts, my friend Laura Nettles has 100 of them on her blog.

**********Wayne’s Point of View**********

Wayne had prepared carefully for tonight. Cassie was expecting dinner and then a movie. He was pretty sure she had her friends lined up at the restaurant to be on danger watch. When he had asked her to go on a date again she had tried to smile, but it looked more like a grimace. She was struggling to find the right words. Wayne hoped she hadn’t changed her mind because he had given her so much time to think about the whole idea of the date.

She had sat down and appeared to weigh the options. Part of her definitely still wanted to go on a date, but part of her seemed to be more wary. He figured if he could get her to say yes, then the details would work out. They would be meeting up at the restaurant as far as she knew and her friends would be there. He rubbed the little bottle again.

**********Cassie’s Point of View**********

Cassie was fumbling with the zipper on her skirt. She was unable to do it herself and finally asked Kimberley for help. Kimberley was eyeing Cassie. She didn’t appear excited about going out. She had bought a new skirt, halter top and black lacy panties with a matching garter belt, but her usual enthusiasm for a new outfit wasn’t there. Several times she started to speak, but couldn’t get the words out. Kimberley said, “Are you okay Cassie? You don’t seem your normal bubbly self.”

“I don’t know. Something just feels off. I know I have tried for weeks now to get Wayne to finally take me on that date he promised, but so much has happened and I am unable to gather up too much excitement.”

“What color nylons are you going to where? Black to match the halter top or skin tone?”

“I don’t know. What do you think?”

“Well with the teal skirt and black halter top I would think black would be a nice contrast and definitely more sexy. Or maybe you are not looking for sexy, Cassie. I can’t gauge your mood.” Cassie’s smile disappeared.

“Part of me thinks he sent me that drugged candy. I am not sure why I think that. I know he said he was sick, but I just have a hard time believing that. I wonder what he will drink at the restaurant. He is old enough to drink. Will he have beer or a cocktail? I can’t drink so I would hope he would just drink soda or tea with me, but what if he drinks? I am trying to remember what he had to drink that night we met. Since we are meeting at the restaurant I could always drive him home or to the movies and just leave his car there if need be.

“Well if you ask me, I think you should wear the black nylons. I think it looks much nicer.” Kimberley pulled the package of black nylons out of the shopping bag and held them up. I choose these milady.”

Cassie took the proffered nylons and began to work them up her legs and then slipped the black 4″ high heels on.

“Nice!” Kimberley openly admired her. “You are beautiful!”

**********Wayne’s Point of View using the 100 word Friday Fictioneers Photo Prompt**********

It was time to start moving forward with his plans to do away with Cassie before he got any more invested in his feelings for her. He opened the old van and stowed the worn comforter in the back. He had to shift the gears manually.

The snow started to fall early this winter. Another reason to get his plans started. He unconsciously rubbed the bottle in his pocket. He hadn’t thought it all out yet. He didn’t want anything to go wrong. Yet he wasn’t sure he wanted to do this. He was afraid he was falling in love.

**********Cassie’s Point of View**********

Cassie was not sure what to do now. She tilted her head to the side as she looked at Wayne seated at one of her tables at the restaurant. He was showing her his dimples. He had a beautiful smile. Slowly her smile formed to match his. She couldn’t believe that he was actually here at the restaurant. He told her he was feeling better and he wanted to have that date if she was still willing to go out with him.

“I know I have been pretty distant lately Cassie, but I have been so sick. I have been wanting to go on this date for so long.”

Cassie didn’t know what to say. She looked out the window that was beside his table. She laughed nervously. Should she believe him. He looked earnest, but she still had this little niggling doubt.

She had a hard time getting back into the groove of working after the incident with the poisoned candy. Her boss, Marco, was not happy with all the time she had missed between spraining her ankle and now the poisoned candy. She had to convince him she was willing to work hard. He kept her job for her each time and she knew that the other waitresses pitched in and worked her hours so he wouldn’t replace her. She had so many people she owed her job to. She couldn’t screw this up.
