Grab a chair and something to drink. If you were here, I would tell you that I am still adjusting to the assisted living facility. The food still sucks, but the dessert is usually good, at least. Of course, I shouldn’t have dessert because of my diabetes, but I need to eat something. They are understaffed and have fired people and had some quit. The thing is that we are still getting new people every day and there isn’t enough staff.

I have been working on writing the prompts I used to write all the time. I am keeping up with them for the last few weeks and slowly going over the memoir I have to rewrite. I had an editor give me some notes on what to do or not to do so I have some help.

My daughter is still suffering from Covid. She is extremely fatigued.

Have a great week, everyone.

Weekend Writing Prompt #280 – Amok

**********

Earning Detention

By Tessa Dean October 2022

Children ran amok in the classroom when the teacher left the room unattended. The principal opened the door when he heard all the ruckus, and the students ignored him, thereby earning themselves detention that afternoon.

Sammi’s Rules:

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.

Word Prompt

Amok

Challenge

Weekend Writing Prompt #280: This weekend your challenge is to write a poem or a piece of prose in exactly 35 words using the word “Amok”.

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

  • your poem / prose must contain this week’s word (see note below).  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
  • the length of your poem / prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.
  • A note on the word: you can use any variation of the word (for example: call, calls, calling, called etc).  If you find you are struggling to use this week’s word you may substitute it for a synonym – just include a note to explain the swap.  Remember, this is supposed to be fun!
