My smile:

We are getting new personnel. New nurses and aides, so hopefully, things will relax a little, and we won’t always be short-handed. My new nurse was a problem on day one, and thankfully, she is doing better on day 2 because I was going to complain to the head nurse, but now I don’t seem to have to, and that is something to smile about.

Rules for the Word of the Day Challenge:

Today’s word of the day is LAMENT.

I lament the loss of my father this past June. It wasn’t unexpected, but it was a shock just the same and I was in the hospital when it happened.

Non-Fiction, Prompt, Share Your World

SHARE YOUR WORLD 11-7-2022

**************************************

Prompt Rules

There are two ways in which you can participate:
Leave your answers in the comments box below or create your own post.
To make it easy for others to check out your post, title your blog post “Share Your World” and link it to this one.

Ping-backs are activated, but don’t always work properly.
I think it is best to leave a link in a comment, just to be sure. It’s okay to just leave the link if you like and don’t have anything else to chat about. If you’d still like to try leaving a ping-back, instructions on how ping-backs work are found by clicking here. Thanks!

I also offer a ‘Gratitude Section’ for those who like a little affirmation with their questions!  It’s always optional to participate in that portion of  SYW of course.

My questions this week then are:

1. Do you consider friends an extension of your family? I consider some friends an extension of my family, but not all of them. Best friends would be considered family, but a friend from work wouldn’t be most likely.

2. Would you confide in a friend more than you would a family member? In some cases, that would be a definite yes. Sometimes you need to talk to someone other than family since it might be about them, and you would get a more subjective answer that wouldn’t hurt a family member’s feelings.

3. How long have you known your best friend? Around 15 to 20 years.

4. Do you believe distance has a negative effect on friendships? Yes, I do. My best friend before the move and the pandemic I saw every week, and we had breakfast together, but now I probably won’t ever see her again as she is quite a bit older than me and won’t drive to see me, and I won’t be driving either.

Back to School Night

By Tessa Dean November 2022

Abby wasn’t looking forward to back-to-school night. She had so much work to do, but it meant a lot to her daughter Alicia, plus the teachers really liked meeting the parents. Alicia was excited about school and couldn’t wait for her mom to meet her teacher, Mrs. Carson. Abby would meet all of the staff and not just her daughter’s teacher. They always introduced the principal as well as the school’s secretary in the auditorium prior to going to the classrooms.

After the introductions, Abby headed down the corridor looking for Alicia’s room. Mrs. Carson was standing at the door and introduced herself to each of the parents as they entered. She invited them to look over the different projects that were on display. Abby eagerly looked for Alicia’s work. Alicia was only in Kindergarten, but she had been in preschool for years and was advanced for her age. Abby was delighted with Alicia’s work.

Mrs. Carson joined Alicia, and after finding out whose parent she was, she launched into a dialog about how wonderful Alicia was and how well she was doing. She was also a well-behaved child, and Mrs. Carson couldn’t stop raving about her.

Once Abby got home, she hugged Alicia to her and told her how she loved the work that had been on display and that she was very proud of her. She showed her husband pictures of Alicia’s projects. He said how sorry he was to have to miss seeing them in person, but the pictures were better than nothing.

Painting Fun

By Tessa Dean November 2022

Melinda should have known better than to leave her three-year-old daughter, Beth, alone while she ran to the bathroom. On her way back to the backyard picnic table covered with paints, she was detained by a phone call. She may have been ok if she had just run in and back out, but she stopped to take the phone call. It was from her mom, and she got so interested in her news she forgot about Beth and the paints.

Who tells a three-year-old not to touch the paints and leaves her alone with them? She really had no one to blame but herself when she came back outside and found Beth covered in paint from head to toe. Beth covered herself and her clothes completely in colored paints that Melinda had been using to paint the backyard. The scenery out there was beautiful, and she loved painting it from different angles.

Now she had to figure out how to get the paint off of Beth without using a harsh paint cleaner of some sort. The clothes were trash, no doubt. The paints wouldn’t wash out. She wasn’t using watercolors as she preferred to paint with acrylic paints. She quickly Googled how to remove acrylic paint from the skin. One of the suggestions was baby oil or rubbing alcohol. Luckily she had baby oil on hand. Rubbing alcohol was another possibility, and it suggested using both baby oil and rubbing alcohol after washing the area with soap and water.

She took Beth with her while she went to get the baby oil and alcohol. While she was in the house, she put her in the bathtub to wash her whole body with soap and water since she had covered most of her body in paint.

It was a slow process, but she gently cleaned her daughter and resisted the urge to yell at her. The incident was her fault as she should never have left her young daughter alone with paints.
