Beans!

By Tessa Dean April 2024

I stared at my plate and groaned. String beans, again! I don’t care for many vegetables and they always choose the ones I don’t eat. They stopped serving us corn so it must be on the list of vegetables that aren’t so good for us. Sometimes the corn is in a mixed vegetable though, but I don’t eat them since I don’t care for the other vegetables in the mix. The food is actually getting worse around here. I dread meal times. When we had a meet the residents lunch, they had a professional chef they claimed was going to be our cook. The food was great and I was happy because I know how these places are with lousy food. Well that wasn’t our chef. The guy we have can’t even scramble eggs. His food is awful and they use a lot of prepared food. Not fresh food.

Work – Word of the Day Challenge

Rules for the Word of the Day Challenge:

Today’s word of the day is WORK.

I was declared unable to work in 2010. Next began the process of filing for disability through Social Security. It was a long, involved process and luckily I had disability insurance that paid for my time that I waited for the Social Security process to finish and for me to start receiving payments from them.

Stung!

By Tessa Dean April 2024

I listened to the buzzing outside the screened in window. I wasn’t sure if it was a wasp, a bee, or a hornet. All I know is that I am allergic to some kind of buzzing flying bee. Remembering back I think it was either a bumble bee or yellow jacket. It flew up under my dress and I smacked at it, which wasn’t a smart move as it proceeded to sting me numerous times. It swelled up close to an inch, and I became violently ill. One sting I can handle, but more than one I can’t without a reaction. I dread the summer months as they fly around and try to get inside. My son-in-law has to carry an epi-pen as he is violently allergic to them. I am not that bad thankfully.

William ate his breakfast of an egg with two strips of bacon before setting out for the park. Before leaving his house, he donned his hat since the weather looked slightly like rain. He also stuffed his book into his backpack to read while waiting for Sarah, who was out walking the baby in the pram. He didn’t feel like walking with her, and he knew this would cause a fight later on, and they would probably miss out on the film they had planned on later for tonight.

William took out his phone and looked for the app with the music note on it that held his favorite music. The leaves had already started to change, and they drifted down around him while he was sitting on a bench. Before reading, he checked out the local news and was shocked to hear that their block of row houses had been taken out by a hand grenade tossed into the one in the middle, causing complete damage to their home and to the ones on either side of theirs. The other houses in the row suffered milder damage.

William frantically searched for Sarah in the park with the pram and their only child. He finally saw her approaching him, and he rushed over to her, telling her what had just happened to their house, according to the local news.

She slapped him across the face and shouted,” What have you done now, William?”

Curls

By Tessa Dean April 2024

I add a perm done to my hair a couple of months ago at the beauty salon that is located here at the facility. It was a different style for me since I went from totally straight hair to curls. I am supposed to be getting a trim done today by the woman who did the perm as it was part of what I paid for, but didn’t need at the time. I like the curls, but it sure is different from what I am used to. Nothing elegant, just simple curls.

Laugh Out Loud

By Tessa Dean April 2024

They say laughter is the best medicine and I sure could use a good dose of laughter. There isn’t much to laugh at living here. Although we are never expecting a lot of stuff that happens. Now when I am nervous I tend to giggle. I also babble while nervous. Sometimes I have to report an employee because they aren’t doing their job and giving me a shower or changing my bed and while trying to complain my nerves get the better of me and I giggle as I talk. I am trying to be serious.

We have at least one resident who is always drinking and her behavior will be out of control and some times that is worth a laugh or two. One night she was wondering around drunk and half undressed and hanging out of her bathrobe. People complained to the manager and she came in yelling, “Who claimed I was drunk,” and practically fell over her own feet and she spilled out of her bathrobe even more. She tried claiming she was sleepwalking. No one was buying that one.

The Weekly Smile for the 22nd of April, 2024 #weeklysmile

Trent’s Rules

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is weeklysmile2b.jpg

My smile:

I am smiling about the fact that they are going to implement two meal times and split the residents up so the dining room won’t be so crowded. It has been crazy at meal times since it was so crowded in there due to all the new residents. The dining room wasn’t designed for that many people, espcially since two thirds of them are in wheel chairs or use walkers. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

One-Liner Wednesday – Parenting

Badge by Laura @ riddlefromthemiddle.com

**********

I need the hackers of my Instagram account to just stop creating havoc in my life and leave me in peace, not constantly on my guard as they try to continue hacking away at my life.

**********

Linda’s Rules:

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!
