This is a 6 minute rough draft for the photo prompt.

John was hurrying down the dark street after spending three hours at the pub, downing as much alcohol as he could. He was distracted by the state of his marriage and where they would go from here. Suddenly, he saw lights down the street where his house was located.

He started to run and as he approached his house, he saw the fire engines and police cars out front. He quickened his pace and saw the flames shooting out of the front windows.

“Oh my God, Suzy! Where are you? I can’t believe this is happening.” John tried to get closer, but he was stopped by a policeman telling him that he couldn’t get any closer. “I have to find my wife. She should be inside of that inferno!”

He was grabbed from behind. It was Suzy! “I am fine John. I got out just before the fire started as I walked our dog,”

“Oh Suzy, I am so sorry for everything that has happened today. Please don’t leave me!

Writer’s Workshop Prompts For May 2, 2024

John’s Rules

Here are the prompts for this week’s Writer’s Workshop:

  1. Write a post based on the word accident.
  2. Write a post in exactly 8 sentences.
  3. Think back to an important experience in your own past—either happy or traumatic. Pick a single physical detail or action that embodies your feelings about that experience and describe it.
  4. Write about at least five separate incidents (not events but rather moments) from your life that feel somehow related. If these vignettes are from different periods in time in your life, all the better.
  5. Write about the last day of school in seventh grade.
  6. In a detailed manner, write about the day of and the day after your little brother or sister was born.

Accident or Not!

Tessa Dean May 2024

I got pregnant for the 3rd time when I was 30 years old. This was almost 40 years ago and at that time, everyone told me how sorry they were for me. I didn’t know what they were sorry for though. So I started asking them why they were sorry.

They told me that they were sorry that I got pregnant by accident. They assumed my pregnancy was a mistake. I was shocked. My then husband and I had carefully planned to have this 3rd child and there was no mistake about it!

Help Desk!

By Tessa Dean May 2024

“May I help you?” the pleasant inquiry was a relief considering the woman she had talked to yesterday about her problem with the company’s customer service. That woman had been bossy, loud and rude all at once. She wasn’t a good fit to be a customer service representative.

Mary had contacted the online support via phone, rather than the chat support, the day before. She was told they couldn’t help her. The printer she had bought years ago wasn’t printing right so she contacted the customer service line for help. The person wasn’t interested in helping her at all. She finally ended up hanging up on the person because all she did was respond rudely to her inquiries as to what may have happened to her printer. Mary didn’t know if there was a problem with the new ink cartridge she had purchased at the store last week or if the printer itself was the problem.

The woman before her wore an ID badge with the name Trisha on it. She seemed willing to listen and perhaps would be able to help her. She told the story again about what was happening to her printer. Trisha listened and suggested that the ink nozzles might be clogged and need a cleaning. She got out a paper with all the instructions on it and told Mary to try them out and if it didn’t work to come back as she was working all day today and tomorrow.

Mary headed home and followed the instructions she had been given. Happily she found out that it was simply the nozzles needing to be cleaned. Her printer was working fine now. She decided since Trisha had been so helpful and not rude that she would visit the store again and thank her personally for the help she received.

The online help needed to be taken to task for their unresponsiveness. They didn’t need to be bossy or loud. They should have been more willing to help her out and it was a simple fix at that.
