Caught!

By Tessa Dean May 2024

With Molly having to cancel their date due to illness, Mark decided to pay Joe a surprise visit on his new houseboat, moored by the canal. Armed with a description of the boat, he set off, not bothering to inform Joe of his impending arrival.

Mark frowned as he scanned the line of boats. He should have called first to ensure Joe was home.

Suddenly, he spotted a familiar figure exiting from one of the boats further down the line. What was Molly doing here, he wondered, anger starting to simmer. She had told him she was unavailable tonight since she wasn’t feeling well. Here she was, looking fine and exiting a boat that fit Joe’s description. She had turned away from him and didn’t notice him approaching.

Mark quickened his pace and caught up to Molly, grabbing her arm and spinning her around to face him. Mark proceeded to grill her on what she was doing there. Joe suddenly came through the door with her handbag.

“Well, isn’t this just a fine mess? You told me you were sick and canceled our date, and I found you coming out of Joe’s boat. Obviously, I can’t trust you. We are through!” Mark turned and walked away.

“No, wait,” she called after him, trying to grab his arm to stop him. “Please don’t be mad. We were just talking. Please listen to me. Nothing happened!”

He yanked his arm out of her grasp and said, “No, we’re finished!” He walked away,

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 4, 2024

**********

I have notes everywhere. I can’t remember things, and there might be more than one note for everything in my life. I can’t find the original note in the mess on my desk, so I will write another one. Plus, there are notations in my planner. Simply notes everywhere.

Linda’s Rules for #SoCS!

After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here to this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!

To make your post more visible, use our beautiful SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!

2019-2020 SoCS Badge by Shelley!
https://www.quaintrevival.com/

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a particular subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

Quiet Please!

By Tessa Dean May 2024

Sam couldn’t figure out why the quiet was being disturbed at 3 AM. His neighbors were usually silent, but for some reason tonight they were arguing loudly and he could here it through the walls separating their apartments.

He pounded on the door and told them to be quiet please. It was early morning and no one could sleep through all the noise. They hushed immediately, apologizing for the noise, but he was now awake and couldn’t get back to sleep.

Shortly thereafter they resumed arguing and he prepared himself for another confontation. It didn’t go well and he finally called the police to settle the matter.

Intruder – Word of the Day Challenge

Rules for the Word of the Day Challenge:

Today’s word of the day is INTRUDER.

********************

Molly squinted at the window. The curtain was open, and she could see that night had finally fallen. She was hesitant to leave the curtain open, as some of her neighbors had been bothered by an intruder, and she wasn’t happy about possibly having someone look into her window.

With a sudden surge of fear, she made the decision to close the curtain and approached the window. As her hand reached for the curtain, her heart skipped a beat. A masked intruder was peering into the window from the left side of the frame, sending a chill down her spine.

She pulled the curtain and then pulled out her phone and dialed 911. She called out for her husband to come to her side. She was terrified that the person would try to enter their house although compared to her neighbor’s homes they had nothing a thief would want. They had the house in the fancy neighborhood but didn’t have fancy jewels and silverware that the thieves seemed to be snatching. Although she was sure that they wouldn’t know that just from peeking into the window. They lived in an expensive, well-to-do neighborhood and that automatically made them targets.

Lemon – Word of the Day Challenge

Rules for the Word of the Day Challenge:

Today’s word of the day is LEMON.

********************

“What do you want to drink with your meal?” the server asked me.

Looking at my sister’s lemon drink with a slice of lemon added, I said, “Definitely not that lemon drink! I will take an iced tea instead.”
