I have never lived in a place without an oven until now. I live in an assisted living facility, and the only thing we are allowed to cook with is a microwave. There is no oven in the small kitchenette. We do have a small refrigerator and a microwave with a couple of cabinets. It is a very small studio-type apartment.

Even without an oven people manage to set off the fire alarms by burning popcorn in the microwave.

Florist – Word of the Day Challenge

Rules for the Word of the Day Challenge:

Today’s word of the day is FLORIST.

********************

There was a knock on the door. I made my way over to the window to see who was out there. I was surprised to see a van from the local florist.

I opened the door and was presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers from my sister. She had remembered my birthday and sent the flowers to surprise me as she usually forgets my birthday.

What do you see # 237

Sadje’s rules:

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a giant female figure who is opening her chest to show the greenery inside. There are cracks on the visage and torso of this sculpture.

The Masterpiece

By Tessa Dean May 2024

Larry spent weeks working on a clay sculpture for his front yard. He didn’t have the materials for a real sculpture like the one he saw at the museum, but he figured out a way to create a figure using squares of dirt and grass, carving out the figure, and covering it with clay. He thought it turned out well.

He added the finishing details to the figure, carving out the face, hair, and hands. It took forever to dry so he could place it in the yard. He had no idea if this would even hold up to the weather.

He put it in the yard and put it proudly on display. He noticed a few cracks, which he smoothed out before he went to bed.

The next morning, he rushed to the window to check out the sculpture and see how it had survived the night. He was disappointed to find it had multiple larger cracks, and the grass and dirt inside were now out for display. The clay hadn’t been strong enough to keep his masterpiece safe from what was most likely the wandering night creatures. Now, everyone knew it wasn’t a real sculpture, and he was mortified.

Here are this week’s questions:

1.  Have you ever roller skated? Yes and that is where I met my ex-husband. We even worked at two different roller skating rinks.
2.  Have you ever ridden a horse (or donkey) Yes once with my friend when we were in our early teens.
3.  What was your favourite ride at a fun fair? Roller Coasters at the amusement parks and at a simple fair I would think the slide or the carousel.
4.  Choice of fun fair prizes:
coconut, cuddly toy, £10/$10 cash prize. Cash or stuffed animals. We always came home with glasses and plates from the coin toss booth.

Why Me?

By Tessa Dean May 2024

I was talking to my daughter and launched into a tirade about my Instagram account being hacked. I am still angry that the hackers have totally blocked me out of my account and are using it and my name to scam people. I changed my Instagram account to a new one with my legal name rather than my online pen name of Tessa Dean.

People are confused when they see that name, but I have an online presence on here under Tessa and I don’t want to have to go through everything and change the name again. It was hard enough changing everything to Tessa and getting followers and now the hackers have ruined that for me. If I change everything to my legal name again I will need new logos and no one will know who I am. Instagram is of no use. They know that account was hacked and they won’t take it down and the hackers are always one step ahead of me and I can’t take it back from them. They are also trying to get into my new account and take it over and they have my info so I have to be very careful not to accidentally click on a link or put in a code when they try to change the password. I hope they get tired of it soon and move on. People are starting to realize it isn’t me and it is someone with a bad grasp of English. No grammar and atrocious spelling. Plus they are rude when they harass my followers and tell them that it is rude to ignore them when they send them a message. Why me? May the wrath of the universe be upon them.

THE PROMPT

Write a word containing each of these 10 words

Why
Misery
Consternation
Pallor
Orchestra
Forgive
Paper
Entry
First
Grandmother

THINGS TO CONSIDER

**********

I love writing prompts with a list of unrelated words. It is a challenge and one I do everyday for one of my daily prompts. This was definitely challenging with 10 words. I came up with a piece of 193 words. It could use some more work, but it is doable as is.

The Concert

By Tessa Dean

Grandmother’s pallor was paler than normal. She appeared to be in misery, much to our consternation. Her cancer had been in remission, but it seemed to be returning with a vengeance.

She had sent her entry into a contest for a local orchestra ticket that she had wanted to attend for a long time but couldn’t afford the tickets. The paper in my hand pronounced her the winner and included two tickets.

She would never forgive me if I did anything to stop her from attending that show. She didn’t understand why we were trying to prevent her from attending due to a flare-up of her cancer. We felt she needed rest and that the excitement of the concert would be too much for her to conquer. She didn’t see it that way.

The tickets were for the day’s first show, a matinee. That would be an early show rather than a late one, and she would have to be escorted by one of us. None of us were interested in that particular orchestra, but we would have to choose one of us to attend with her. This meant a lot to her.
