Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #269

Melissa’s Rules:

Hello! Welcome to Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge. Each week I will post an image I grab off the internet and challenge bloggers to write a flash fiction piece or a poem inspired by the image. There are no style or word limits.

The image below is from eberhard grossgasteiger on Unsplash.

The image depicts two pieces of wood formed into a crucifix, rising from a pile of rocks at their base. The rocks and the cross are atop a grassy mountain. We see fog-covered mountains in the distance, underneath a cloud-filled blue sky, with sunlight shining through and tinging the clouds with shades of mauve and peach.

If this week’s image inspires you and you wish to participate, please write your post and use the tag #FFFC. Please create a pingback to this post and/or manually add your link in the comments. I hope it will generate some great posts. Don’t forget to stop back and read/comment on the posts of others. Thank you for participating!

A Black Cat Missing

By Tessa Dean May 2024

The alley was dark and appeared empty, but I heard a noise as I squinted into the darkness surrounding me. What was making the noise? I was alone and scared, but I had to try to find my way down the alley. My black cat, Shadow, had run off, and since he was an indoor cat, I had to find him and bring him home before something happened to him.

It was my fault that Shadow managed to sneak out of the door as I brought the groceries in. I should have brought in less at a time to watch for Shadow since I knew he had started trying to escape whenever the door was opened.

No lights were shining in the alley. I took out my cell phone and found the flashlight app. I shone it down the alley and into the corners created by trash dumpsters. I knew he had to be here somewhere since it was near my apartment. This was the alley outside my backdoor, the door he had managed to escape from.

I heard the noise again and flashed the flashlight into the corner nearest me. I caught a glimpse of a black animal, small enough to be Shadow. I called Shadow’s name, hoping he would hear me, and return to the entrance to the alley where I was waiting.

He stopped and turned toward me. “Here, Shadow, come boy,” I coaxed in a wheedling voice. “Come to me.” He started toward me, and I focused the light on him, hoping he could tell it was me. I inched closer to him as I didn’t want to scare him away.

I shined the light onto my face, and he ran up to me. He rubbed me on the legs as I reached down and picked him up. He snuggled against me, and I felt him shivering. He had been scared, and hopefully, this would be enough to keep him from sneaking outside again.

My smile:

Last night I had a new aide and she smilingly gave me my shower. Some times I don’t get one at all or if I do the aide is grumpy as all get out. Last night was a pleasure.

Leave your answers in the comments box below or create your own post.
To make it easy for others to check out your post, title your blog post “Share Your World” and link it to this one.

Ping-backs are activated, but don’t always work properly.
I think it is best to leave a link in a comment, just to be sure. It’s okay to just leave the link if you like and don’t have anything else to chat about. If you’d still like to try leaving a ping-back, instructions on how ping-backs work are found by clicking here. Thanks!

Here are this week’s questions:

1.  Do you have a favourite movie you never tire of watching? I would say there are a few. One of them is “Sound of Music.”
2.  Do you have a favourite song or special song as a couple? My ex and I never had a song per se.
3.  How do you relax in the evenings? Reading or writing mainly. I rarely watch TV.
4.  Do you celebrate special birthdays or anniversaries? My family has pretty much stopped celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Which is fine with me since I hate shopping for gifts and now I don’t have the money to shop for gifts.

Three Things Challenge #M700

Prompt Rules

**********

Your three words today are:
RAVAGE
DEVOUR
DETOUR

***************

The rabid creatures ravaged the human parts left behind by their leader after he had his fill of the bloody human flesh. They began to devour the parts they were able to take off of the others in the pack. They were fighting with each other over what little remained. The ground was a bloody mess strewn with bits of bloody human flesh.

Once he has his fill, the leader detoured around the lowly creatures still fighting over the remains. He would move on to look for other humans to devour for his next meal. Finding humans to feed on was getting harder all the time. The human population was not reproducing fast enough and the leader knew he would have to move on to another location to satisfy his and his followers needs.

FOWC with Fandango — Officer and Word of the Day Challenge – Graduate

Fandango’s Rules For the One Word Challenge

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). The word is “officer.”

I am also using The Word Of The Day Challenge – Graduate

**********

As the graduates lined up in the building on campus, a police officer was outside frantically trying to direct traffic and get all the cars parked. There were twice as many cars as available parking spots. The officer had no idea what to do with all the cars that were lined up and waiting to be parked. He took out his cell phone and called the school’s dean and asked if he had any idea where he should put all the cars that still needed to be parked. He left the dean pondering a solution as he went back to trying to fit more cars into the parking lot and along the road.
