War!

By Tessa Dean May 2024

I was told to meet them at the top of the hill in Ramsey’s Park. I followed the directions and after climbing a series of hills I came across a stone wall. There was silence which was unusual for the middle of the afternoon. The sun would be setting in approximately 5 hours and I had no idea what Richie and Mark were up to.

Something whizzed over my head and landed behind me. Ducking I looked for a place to take cover. I spotted a large tree and dived behind it. “Hey Richie, what are you guys up to?” I shouted towards the wall of rocks.

“We’re at war, man. You won’t get away with messing around with my girlfriend.”

“What are you talking about? I haven’t seen Rochelle in weeks.” Frantically I looked for some rocks to use as ammunition. Obviously they had this planned and built a wall and who knew how many rocks they had in their possession.

“Listen man, Mark here says he saw the two of you together and he wouldn’t lie to me. So what gives?”

“I’m telling you man, I haven’t seen her in weeks and you were with her. I am not seeing her behind your back. I promise.”

More rocks headed in his direction and the tree wasn’t much protection. He threw a few rocks at the top of the wall and heard a yelp. He must have hit one of them.”

“Hey stop that,” Richie yelled.

“Listen, you can’t aim at me and not expect retaliation. I’m telling you I haven’t been with Rochelle. Did she tell you that we were seeing each other? Because if she did, she’s lying.”

“No she denies it too.”

“Then I suggest you believe us over Mark. I don’t know why he is lying, but this isn’t funny.”

Whispers came from behind the wall. Mark yelled, “Stop! I’m sorry. I thought it would be funny. I figured you wouldn’t believe it and it would blow over after a little while.”

“Mark that is so mean man. I could have hurt him for nothing. I am not taking you home. You need to find your own ride home man. This is so not funny. Get out of here.”

Mark pleaded for him to reconsider and apologized, but Richie was having none of it. Mark came out from behind the wall and headed down the hill. Richie headed over to the wall and Richie. “I can’t believe you believed him man. I thought we were best friends. I am leaving too. You are on your own for the next few weeks until things blow over. I suggest you tell Rochelle what happened although I am sure she will be mad at you too.”

“Oh man, I am really sorry. Can’t you forgive and forget?”

“Not right now. Give me a few weeks to calm down and we’ll talk then. Good bye!”

The tornado ripped through the small town consisting of mainly mobile home parks and farmland. Maria emerged from the damaged mobile home she had once called home and grabbed her daughter up into her arms as she headed out looking for other survivors. “Help,” she barely heard above the storm that was still pummeling the small town. Putting her child down, she reached out to the hand peeking out from the pile of damaged wood that had once been someone’s home.

PROMPT WORD:  LIGHT

**********

The light shines down from above. Highlighting my words as I create my next piece. Wait, I need to look something up as the meaning of the word eludes me. I hate when this happens and it is happening much more frequently lately. The word I want is found and I head toward the end of the piece. The light goes out!

Baking

By Tessa Dean May 2024

Jeanie had her seven-year-old twin girls, Sandy and Mandy, perched on stools at the counter where the baking supplies were laid out. Jeanie recently took a cake decorating class and promised the girls they would bake and decorate a birthday cake. Unfortunately, they couldn’t agree on a cake. They each had their own favorites. Jeanie told them ordering a cake at the local bakery would be easier She was fed up with the fighting.

The girls stopped bickering and said they wanted a princess cake. Jeanie said that was fine, and that they could each choose their favorite dress color.

One-Liner Wednesday – Showers

**********

Today the aide informed me that I would only get one shower per week which prompted me to go to the facility director and ask if it was a new policy or not and she informed me that I am still to get two showers per week and she would take care of it.

Linda’s Rules:

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

FOWC with Fandango — Snark and Word of the Day Challenge – Volume Plus The Three Things Challenge

Fandango’s Rules For the One Word Challenge

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). Today’s word is SNARK.

I am also using The Word Of The Day Challenge – Volume

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M702.

Your three words today are:
DANCE
DUTY
DESIRE

**********

“So what does the word Snark mean,” Jenny asked in a snarky tone of voice. lowering the volume on her head set to hear my answer to her question.

“I would say you know the answer to the question as you are asking me in a sarcastic tone of voice. It means sarcastic or another meaning is an imaginary animal. You have your phone in your hand, why didn’t you just look it up?”

“I didn’t feel like searching on my phone for the meaning. You know I am not very good with a smart phone. By the way, is Jason going to the school dance tonight?”

“I don’t know what my brother is doing tonight. It is not my duty to run his social life and I certainly have no desire to have him at the dance to tease me about my date. You know he doesn’t like Jonathan.”

“Now who’s being snarky?” Jenny asked her friend.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

**********

Arlene panicked when she realized she had sent the text to her boss, rather than to her boyfriend. She tried to think if she could possibly unsend the text, but she wasn’t very smart when it came to smart phones and didn’t know if it was possible to unsend or not.

Her boss texted her back almost immediately. Her face turned ashen, pale, almost colorness if that is possible in her embarrassment. She was terrified to open the text.

She had mistakenly sent her boss the text meant for her boyfriend David. The text contained a nude picture of her taken in a moment when she wasn’t thinking clearly. He had always begged her to send him nude pictures in return for some of him. She had always refused and didn’t think it was appropriate. Now in her haste at his begging for one she had mistakenly sent the text including the nude picture to her boss. She could only imagine what he was thinking right now and here was a text from him that she was terrified to open.

Arlene needed her job and she was almost positive her boss was firing her. After all he was married and had never even hinted that he might be interested in her and she could only imagine what he must be thinking right now.

She moved to open the text and get it over with. She could hardly believe what she was reading. Mr. Connelly had written back just a quick message. “Just say when, baby!”

He wasn’t firing her, but he obviously expected her to sleep with him. Now what?

Aaron Connelly heard the beep on his cell phone signaling a new text. He wasn’t expecting a text from his employee, Arlene. This was out of character for her. She just did her work and kept to herself.

He opened the text and stared in surprise. She had sent him a nude picture of herself. He felt himself getting excited and while he was surprised to see the picture, he was interested. His wife didn’t have to know about it. She was busy with her own life.

He quickly texted her back, “Just say when, baby!” and waited for her response with anticipation.
