“Why are you crying so hard?” Rita demanded of her sister Roslyn.
“I’m in such a state, Rita,” she wailed, her voice filled with misery. “I’m at my wit’s end with my job. I despise it, but finding a new one and coping with all those nerve-wracking interviews is too much. It’s all so terrifying.” Tears streamed down her face, and she futilely tried to wipe them away with a damp tissue.
“I hardly think sobbing about it will fix the situation,” Rita tried to console her.
Roslyn looked at her sister and thought, nothing like rubbing salt into an open wound. She could use a bit of sympathy, although Rita had no problem finding new jobs and going to interviews. They were so different.
Raymond, adjusting his cuff links for the 2nd time that day, said, “What’s with her?” indicating Roslyn.
“Your sister hates her job and doesn’t want to be told to find a new one since she hates doing interviews. By the way, what is Mom doing with a cupcake tin? Is she making cupcakes or muffins today by chance?”
Raymond stopped fidgeting with his cuff links and leaned in towards Rita. “She promised to make birthday cupcakes for Janey’s school today. I am worried that she will mess up the recipe like she did the last time she made them, and Janey will be mortified. Mom is excited, though, to be making them. What do I do?”
“Promise to deliver them for her and stop at the store on the way would be my guess. I wouldn’t trust Mom’s baking anymore.”
“Oh, what a great idea. Thanks!” Raymond glanced over at Roslyn, who was still sniffling. “What about her? She is still upset.”
“Only she can make the decision to look for another job and deal with the fact that there will be job interviews. Either that or she has to remain miserable in the job she has. I don’t see what the big deal is. I don’t like interviews, but they are necessary for job hunting.”
“Roslyn,” Raymond called to his other sister, “What will you do? Stay in the job you hate or look for a new one?”
“I don’t know big brother. I need to think about it some more. I don’t need to decide today. My boss expects me to finish this big project we’ve all been working on. I hate to leave him stranded right now. Besides, I have no idea what kind of job I want. I will have to search for jobs on the websites and see what’s available. Maybe I will change to something in a different line of work.”
