5 Daily Writing Prompts, including Fandango and The Three Things Challenge

Today’s post includes 5 daily writing prompts.

Fandango’s One Word Challenge. The word is cope.

The Three Things Challenge #726. The three words are cry, wail and sob.

The RagTag Community daily challenge. The word is open wound.

The Daily Spur daily challenge. The word is tin.

My Vivid Blog daily challenge. The word is cuff links.

**********

“Why are you crying so hard?” Rita demanded of her sister Roslyn.

“I’m in such a state, Rita,” she wailed, her voice filled with misery. “I’m at my wit’s end with my job. I despise it, but finding a new one and coping with all those nerve-wracking interviews is too much. It’s all so terrifying.” Tears streamed down her face, and she futilely tried to wipe them away with a damp tissue.

“I hardly think sobbing about it will fix the situation,” Rita tried to console her.

Roslyn looked at her sister and thought, nothing like rubbing salt into an open wound. She could use a bit of sympathy, although Rita had no problem finding new jobs and going to interviews. They were so different.

Raymond, adjusting his cuff links for the 2nd time that day, said, “What’s with her?” indicating Roslyn.

“Your sister hates her job and doesn’t want to be told to find a new one since she hates doing interviews. By the way, what is Mom doing with a cupcake tin? Is she making cupcakes or muffins today by chance?”

Raymond stopped fidgeting with his cuff links and leaned in towards Rita. “She promised to make birthday cupcakes for Janey’s school today. I am worried that she will mess up the recipe like she did the last time she made them, and Janey will be mortified. Mom is excited, though, to be making them. What do I do?”

“Promise to deliver them for her and stop at the store on the way would be my guess. I wouldn’t trust Mom’s baking anymore.”

“Oh, what a great idea. Thanks!” Raymond glanced over at Roslyn, who was still sniffling. “What about her? She is still upset.”

“Only she can make the decision to look for another job and deal with the fact that there will be job interviews. Either that or she has to remain miserable in the job she has. I don’t see what the big deal is. I don’t like interviews, but they are necessary for job hunting.”

“Roslyn,” Raymond called to his other sister, “What will you do? Stay in the job you hate or look for a new one?”

“I don’t know big brother. I need to think about it some more. I don’t need to decide today. My boss expects me to finish this big project we’ve all been working on. I hate to leave him stranded right now. Besides, I have no idea what kind of job I want. I will have to search for jobs on the websites and see what’s available. Maybe I will change to something in a different line of work.”

FOWC with Fandango, Plus The Three Things Challenge, Plus The Rag Tag Community Daily Prompt, Plus The Daily Spur, Plus the Word of the Day Challenge, Plus My Vivid Blog Challenge

I use a combination of the following daily prompts, with an odd one occasionally thrown in there for good measure.

Fandango’s Rules For the One Word Challenge. Today’s word is fluctuation.

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M725.

Your three words today are:
Worry
Anxious
Emotional

**********

I am also using the Word of the Day Challenge which is allergist.

**********

I am also using the Rag Tag Community Daily Prompt which is rock.

**********

I am also using The Daily Spur prompt which is appointment.

**********

And last is the “My Vivid Blog” daily prompt which is maybe.

**********

I always worry when I have to make a phone call. Phone calls make me anxious, and I become an emotional wreck. Today, I have to call my allergist and make an appointment. He told me last month that there was too much fluctuation in the numbers and that my allergies may have changed, so I needed to be retested.

I made an appointment for this afternoon at 3 p.m. If I leave right now, I might make it on time. I grabbed my tote bag, and it felt like it was filled with rocks. Maybe I need to clean it out today when I get back from the doctor’s. Right now, I am too anxious about being late to stop and empty out the bag.

**********

17-year-old Michelle stared dumbstruck at herself in the mirror. Overnight, she had developed an authentic patch of blemishes on her face. The largest was like a nucleus, with smaller ones spreading out in a circular patch. The acne was so noticeable she might as well have taken out a bulletin announcing it to the whole school. No one could miss it since she normally does not have acne. Her complexion is usually very clear.Once her classmates saw her face, she knew today was going to be a horrific day. She longed for the mundane days when nobody noticed her—when she could just exist without being the center of attention.

The coach, deeply invested in his team, felt a surge of anger as he overheard the other coach’s disparaging remarks. His players, his pride and joy, were being belittled. They had worked tirelessly, day in and day out, to secure their position as the number one team in the league.

He pulled his keys out of the pocket of his favorite jacket and looked for his wife, who was dressed in her favorite black polka-dot skirt and white blouse. He found her in the bleachers reading the almanac for the upcoming new year. He told her what was happening, and she suggested he use her tablet to email the head of the league and let him know what the other coach was doing to the boy’s morale. He took her tablet and used the sign-in screen to log into his email account. He quickly typed out a message to the head of the league, and after listening to the other coach, who continued to talk badly about his boys, he sent the email. The comments were damaging to young boys’ morale. It wasn’t fair that the boys be subjected to that kind of talk from another coach. The other coach also happened to have a son on the other team, and he was not being at all professional and was teaching those boys bad behavior. An email returned almost immediately, and he was told it would be taken care of that night.

Carl was the embodiment of a fiddler. Even though he had a violin and learned to play it as a child. He decided to go the route of a bluegrass band and hence was known as The Fiddler. He didn’t like it when people called him a violinist. He was not the violin type. He was a member of a bluegrass band, and they played to crowds every night at a local bar.

Carl took a break from the evening’s entertainment and got himself a citrus drink. His favorite citrus drink was a Tequila Sunrise, made with orange juice, which is one of his favorite breakfast drinks. Just then, his brother, Raymond, arrived to see the end of his show. He was still in his clown suit as he had a gig tonight and was just finishing up for the evening. Neither of them had conventional jobs. They went for the unusual jobs.

As they talked, Carl clutched his fiddle close to him. He didn’t leave it lying around where someone might try to pick it up and play it or, worse yet walk off with it.

Raymond tried to keep their conversation discreet as he whispered about a new girl he met at the gig he had just left, sparking a flicker of interest in Carl’s eyes. Raymond hoped to talk her into going out with him. He was afraid that if he said too much about her, Carl would try to meet her. He had stolen other girls from Raymond over the years.

It was time for Carl to get back onstage for the last set of the evening. He finished his drink and rose, picking up his fiddle. He headed for the stage and joined his fellow band members as they started to play again for the crowds still hanging around for their music and a nightcap.

My large mansion sat in the middle of 50 acres of land on the outskirts of town. My objective in having so much land was so that I didn’t have neighbors living close by. I liked my privacy.

My roomy master bedroom had enough space to display my favorite guitars. As I walked past, I strummed a single chord, its vibrations resonating through the air and jarring my senses. It wasn’t the right one for the song I was currently writing. I tried another, and this time, the sound was mellow, more in tune with the melody in my head.

I headed into my master bathroom and ran a bath in the claw-foot tub to reflect on the song some more. The bathroom was large, and I had a lot of stuff on the countertop. My favorite piece of abstract art was on the wall, which I could see from my tub and it gave me inspiration.

When I went to exit the tub, I realized I didn’t have a towel on the rack near the tub. I was lazy, so I pulled the cord to summon the maid to bring me a towel so I wouldn’t have to walk across the bathroom, dripping water everywhere.

After drying off in the bathroom, I headed into my room to dress. My feet were still damp and left marks on the carpet. My maid begged me to stop walking all over it and dry my feet. I sat on the bed and dried them with the towel she handed me. I dressed and headed into my study to work.

The new parts of the song were running through my mind. I had to get them written down before I forgot them. I was almost done with this song and would perform it at the New Year’s Eve Ball.
