My smile:

My sister took me to lunch Sunday for my birthday.

My daughter brought my youngest grandson for a short visit.

I have been watching the old “Here’s Lucy” with Lucille Ball and many documentaries about her and Desi. Although I enjoy their shows immensely, I was disappointed to hear that they didn’t have the happy Hollywood marriage they portrayed in their shows. I don’t know how I missed all the drama and their divorce due to Desi’s cheating on Lucy in real life. At least I am enjoying the shows Lucy puts on by herself without him just as well.

The group of kids were out in the darkness and past curfew. Since they were in a hurry to get home, they crossed the creek on the large stepping stones. It was getting spooky out there, so one of the kids turned on a flashlight to light their way except they slipped and dropped the flashlight in the water, and it wouldn’t work anymore. They continued hurriedly in the darkness towards home.

Lush Green Gardens

By Tessa Dean October 2022

“Come here, Leo,” Robert called to his dog.”Come this way, and let’s see what’s down this path.” The dog turned to follow him, and they headed down the wooded path. The dog had to stop and sniff almost every tree or bush continually. They eventually came to a brick wall. They followed it around until they came to an opening and looked in. A beautiful view of a garden led up to the mountains in the distance. He didn’t go all the way in this time.

Robert and Leo rested, scoping out the area he could clearly see, and decided that he and his wife Lisa would explore the gardens the next time they walked the dog together. He decided on their next hike together that they would bring a picnic and then explore as far as Lisa could walk. She wasn’t in great shape like Robert, who took long walks with the dog and got plenty of exercise every day.

Lisa agreed to the picnic and then a hike through the gardens. The day they headed out, it was warm and sunny, and Lisa was enchanted with the garden. They found a lush green spot, spread the blanket, and set out the picnic. They spent a pleasant afternoon exploring the park and the mountains that were closest to them.

Shipwrecks!

By Tessa Dean October 2022

I was thinking back on my thoughts about my childhood ambition and what I wanted to be as an adult. Like most children, I dreamed of being an adult and having the ideal job.

My main dream was to be an oceanographer, or more precisely, I wanted to study shipwrecks which is usually called Maritime Archeology, not oceanography. I would love to explore shipwrecks, but my main dream was to study the Titanic. The last I heard, the Titanic was too deep to be explored by scuba diving. This brings me to why I didn’t go on and study shipwrecks. I am terrified of going underwater and putting the gear on my head to just snorkel. I am claustrophobic, and I took over an hour just putting a mask on my face to snorkel in the clear water of the Bahamas.

Once I got it on and looked down, I felt like I was in a giant fish tank. There were huge fish swimming around, and they terrified me, and one fish started towards me, and I screamed underwater. Later we went to where the large angel fish hung around and waited to be fed. They were aggressive and went after the food we were holding. I wanted out of there. Those fish were at least a foot in size, unlike what you see in a home fish tank.

So you see, a career underwater wasn’t for me. I did enjoy watching tv documentaries on it, and I did a research paper comparing the wrecks of three famous shipwrecks, one of them being the Titanic.

Night Time Fears!

By Tessa Dean October 2022

I wish I didn’t have constant nightmares. I wake up at night in a sweat from the fear induced by my nightmares. I have no control over nightmares, but daydreams can be most pleasant as we control our daydreams. I spent hours as a child dreaming up the most ideal life I could possibly live. I was always in love with the handsome movie and tv stars of my favorite movies and tv shows, and I had the most beautiful body, of course. Nowadays, I no longer daydream, although I don’t know why. Is it because my mental status is basically under control, so I no longer need to find the ideal place to get away?

Now, if I could stop the constant nightmares as I am tired of waking up terrified until I realize it was a dream. I have several nightmares every night.

Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt #283 –Dunk

Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt Rules:

Coffee or Tea?

By Tessa Dean October 2022

I carefully laid out the teacups and cream and sugar holders. I was using Grandma’s beautiful china tea set. Standing back, I studied the table. I had brewed the coffee and boiled the water for the tea, and now I laid out a tray of homemade cookies I spent all day yesterday baking.

My friends started arriving and gathered around the table with their cups. Hands reached for the cookies, and Marcy dunked hers in her coffee.

Grab a chair and something to drink. If you were here, I would tell you that for over a month, we have had no hot water in the mornings, and then it became an all-day problem, and now we have to go to the other building to take a shower. What a pain! The heat isn’t working either. Everything needs parts.

My arms finally stopped hurting from the two vaccines I got. I get insulin shots, and it was hard to find places that didn’t already hurt so I could get my insulin.

It is almost time for NaNoWriMo, and I will try rewriting my memoir for it this time. I haven’t entered in a while.

I went through the hassle of getting approval for the extra miles for the medical transportation, and what I feared happened. They moved back to the other office, so it has to be redone.

We had a hallway trick-or-treating for the local community, so I participated by giving out candy. Our activities director did a nice job of setting it all up. They are still trying to get people to participate in the activities. Most people aren’t interested. We play BINGO for BINGO Bucks and can use them to buy things we might need or just want. Not a bad idea.

Have a great week, everyone.
