Thanks to Natalie, the Explorer, for hosting this prompt.

Grab a chair and something to drink. If you were here, I would tell you that I am working diligently on my prompts that I write and post to my blog. I made my blog point to a domain name again. So it is back to being a dot com. No more ads is another plus. I spent Thursday night up very late writing on the memoir. I had thought I had about a third of it done, but yesterday I realized there was a lot that needed to be added to the existing words. I didn’t go to bed until after 1 AM and I only got a few hours of sleep last night so today I was constantly falling asleep. It is getting late now and I have to go to bed soon. I just got my medications at 10 PM though so it will be another latish night. I was going to start on the memoir again, but if I do I will be up all night again.

The food around here is getting worse. I have mentioned this before, and what they serve us is really pathetic. This place is the pits. I hate it here, but I am stuck here for the rest of my life unless they get shut down of course. The state is liabel to take over and who knows what that would bring down on our heads. We pay for the food here, but can’t eat most of it. It is part of our rent so we can’t refuse to pay and eat our own food. We can eat our own food, of course, but it won’t come off of our rent. I try to eat what I can manage to stomach. I am curious as to whether I am still losing weight. I would love to lose more.

We still are getting new staff to replace our old staff and hate to lose the good ones. New ones keep coming. It is a steady revolving door. And we really hate losing the good ones. They are finally getting fed up with the whole situation here so I can’t blame them for leaving, but it leaves us with new people who don’t want to be here. They are just here for a paycheck. It is really lousy.

The weekend goes really fast. I mean all the days go really fast and can’t believe it is almost June and summer again. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 25, 2024

**********

I decided that this was going to be my last move. Everything seemed to point to that being true, but things are not going well at the facility I live in and I worry that something will happen and I will be forced to move out of here. That is good and bad because I am not happy here, but there aren’t any places that are any better. These places are all terrible. There is concern that the state may take over and we don’t know what that could mean for us. Would we have to move eventually or not?

Linda’s Rules for #SoCS!

After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here to this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!

To make your post more visible, use our beautiful SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!

2019-2020 SoCS Badge by Shelley!
https://www.quaintrevival.com/

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. I will post the prompt here on my blog every Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a particular subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The,’” or will simply be a single word to get you started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read all of them! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later or go to the previous week by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

Mystical Book Store!

By Tessa Dean May 2024

The crowd, brimming with anticipation, has gathered to be the first inside the new bookstore, which is set to open momentarily. It specializes in mystical subjects, and the atmosphere is electric with excitement.

The door is open; however, a strange statue holding a book blocks the way in. “It is not time yet,” the shopkeeper yells out the door. Come back in three hours, and I will be ready for you then.”

The crowd, intrigued by the statue’s enigmatic presence, exchanges curious glances. Some venture to decipher the words on the book’s page, but all they can make out is ‘Once Upon a Time…’-the beginning of a fairy tale. Speculations about the store’s contents fill the air.

Newcomers keep arriving, and the ever-growing crowd is getting louder all the time. People are pushing each other to get to the head of the line that has formed. Soon, there will be no line as people continue to shove their way through to the front.

As he finally lets them in he notices that the end of the crowd is running their hands over his large statue outside the door. “Is this for sale?” one of the people in the crowd asks.

“No,” he says. “It is just for decoration.”

“I will give you $500 for it.”

“$1000 is the least I can accept.”

The customer agrees and arrangements are made to have the statue loaded into a truck. The shopkeeper accepts a credit card for payment.

FOWC with Fandango — Captivated Plus The Three Things Challenge

Fandango’s Rules For the One Word Challenge

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). Today’s word is FUEL.

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M704.

Your final three words for this week are:
SCORE
COUNT
RESOLUTE

**********

The game captivated my attention. The score was tied and I was watching the counter count down. It looked like they were going to run into overtime since they never let the game end in a tie. They worked hard to score a run in the last few minutes, you could see the resolution in their actions.

Steal A Song | StoryADay 2024 Day 24

THE PROMPT

Write the Story of a Song (Title is “Baby I Love You So”) – Artist is Colourbox

THINGS TO CONSIDER

**********

Song Title – Baby I Love You So

She was the most beautiful baby in the world, I thought as I lovingly cradled her in my arms. The doctor had just delivered her, my husband had cut the umbilical cord, and she was placed in my arms as they went about delivering the afterbirth. She cried just a little bit after the initial wail as she entered this world. She let us know she was here now and we had better pay attention.

They left her in my arms as they tried to start breastfeeding and get her to latch onto my breast. She was having problems latching on, though. They were patient and worked with her til she finally managed to grasp a hold of my nipple with her tiny mouth. She instinctively knew to suck, and I could feel the slight tug as she sucked harder.

“Rachel, you are so beautiful. You look so much like your daddy. What do you think, John? Doesn’t she look like you?” I stared at her lovingly.

She lost interest in feeding and fell asleep in my arms. The nurse gently lifted her up and out of my arms so she could clean her up and get her dressed. They didn’t want her to catch a cold, so she was dressed and wrapped snugly in a blanket. They placed her in a crib while they prepared to move us to our room.

The nurse asked me if I intended to breastfeed or bottle feed. After our little trial run, I decided to go with a bottle. She tried to persuade me to change my mind, but I really wasn’t interested in breastfeeding.

They moved us to our room, and the crib was placed beside my bed. I watched Rachel sleeping while thanking God for such a lovely, healthy child. She woke up crying, and the nurse came in and showed me how to change her diaper and prepare her bottle for another feeding. She ate an ounce or two and fell back asleep. I held her in my arms for a while before placing her back into the crib.

John came over and picked her up so he could hold her for a while. We were both thankful for such a lovely baby and looked forward to our new lives as a family.
