The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS June 22, 2024

**********

The children were out playing in the water of the lake where our home was situated. Suddenly my son came running into the house and raced over to the couch and climbed up on it screaming, “Nakes, nakes.”

I had no idea what he was screaming about at first. Slowly it dawned on me that he could not say the SN sound. He was screaming snakes, not nakes. I rushed over to the window and looked out and sure enough there were three snakes out front in the water.

Grab a chair and something to drink. If you were here, I would tell you that they have fired the executive administrator of my assisted living facility. That was quite a shock. We knew they were working hard to make the place presentable for an inspection, but in reality things here are not as they should be and they must have known what was gong on and that she wasn’t doing her job of taking care of us. There is hope that maybe things will be better around here for us. They haven’t been taking care of us at all. We had half expected the state to take over and run the place, but for now that is on the back burner as one of the other women in the office is going to take over for now. She is the financial director. It seems she was instrumental in getting the other woman fired because she wasn’t doing her job. So we shall see what is going to happen. I hope things get better around here.

The food is still really awful. It is barely edible and most people are sending it back uneaten, but nothing is done about it. We have a new head of dietary, but she hasn’t accomplished anything. Perhaps the change noted above will help us with this problem as well.

I am still rewriting my memoir over and over. I edit as I write and so each time I start I start at the beginning and end up rewriting it. I am learning more as I go along and of course the added memories help. I am learning that I add too much stuff that really isn’t needed and so I delete a lot and add other stuff. I am also using my “The Emotion Thesaurus” and adding more emotion to the description. That book is really helpful for describing emotions. Instead of saying I am afraid, you describe the emotions that indicate fear. It is really helpful I am finding.

My granddaughter was named valedictorian of her class and she gave a really nice speech. We are so proud of her. She is graduating from highschool and already has two years of college courses under her belt so she graduated from college before high school with an associates degree. She starts next year as a Junior in college rather than a Freshman. She has worked so hard. She already plans on geting her Master’s Degree as well. I forget what she plans on studying though. I thought it might be an engineer, but I could be wrong. She is one intelligent young lady.

Another weekend has come and I am sure it will pass quickly. Enjoy your summer everyone.

How about it? Why don’t you reach back into your own archives and highlight a post that you wrote on this very date in a previous year? You can repost your Flashback Friday post on your blog and pingback to this post. Or you can just write a comment below with a link to the post you selected.

If you’ve been blogging for less than a year, go ahead and choose a post that you previously published on any day this past year and link to that post in a comment.

June 21st prompt is “Jiggly Jenny”

Jiggly Jenny by Tessa Dean

(also known as Teresa Smeigh from www.tessacandoit.com)

Jiggly Jenny many called her.

Many steps made her falter.

Jenny wouldn’t harm a soul.

Helping people was her goal.

People always laughed at Jenny.

Something that shouldn’t be funny.

Human beings can be so mean.

Why must they torment the teen?

What goes around one day they’ll reap.

Making fun, they watch her weep.

Jenny doesn’t understand.

What’s so funny she’d demand?

You they’d say, pointing at her.

Jenny turned and her steps falter.

Sadness fills her heart.

Stumbling, she does depart.

Laughter follows her as she leaves.

Wiping her tears on her sleeves.

The outside of the building had multicolored shutters. They were all closed except for one, which had a candelabra sitting on the windowsill.

This was the building I had been directed to. The realtor had told me that it housed several different businesses. The first floor had been a carpet store. The carpets were made of many different fibers, some man-made. I had been told that the building was originally a restaurant before it sold out to the carpet store.

The second floor had housed a sculpture store, and if you were interested, many classes had been available for participation.

I turned to the realtor and said, “You slay me. Did you think I would be interested in buying this building? You have to be joking!”

“I slay you? You slay me, thinking that miserable sum you said you had available would buy you a fancy building. This is the only thing I have available in your price range.”

“Surely you have something else available. I just need an office for my nationalist interests. A place where we can plan our protests of the local regime.”

“I told you this is the only thing available.”

“It is much too big. I just need a small office. Surely there is an office available somewhere,”

“Let’s go. I have nothing else to show you, and you don’t seem interested in this building.”

“I’ll take it,” I sighed.
