The Writer’s Workshop 6/27/24

**********

Here are the prompts for this week’s Writer’s Workshop:

  1. Write a post based on the word: ignore.
  2. Write a post in exactly 8 sentences.
  3. What are your plans for Independence Day (next Thursday, in the US), Canada Day (Monday, in Canada), or next week (everywhere else)?
  4. If you could trade lives with any person (living or deceased, real or fictional), who would it be, and why?
  5. Tell us about a time you had to go to court, or about a time you had jury duty.
  6. Tell us about a time you pretended to know someone, but didn’t.

I chose numbers 1, 2 and 5.

The Marine Corps officer filed a complaint against me for ignoring the alert light on the base airfield and had a ticket sent to my home with two military police (MPs). They told me that I had to report to a court hearing. This officer had chased me down as I crossed the field and ran me off the road. My husband, an enlisted man, told me to ignore the MP’s ticket and not sign it. They left it on the table and left. The ticket was full of mistakes, and since the officer was new to the base, he didn’t know I didn’t ignore the light, as we didn’t have to stop for that light unless it was red. I showed up for court on the day listed on the ticket, but the officer himself never bothered to show up. I was told I was NOT in the wrong, and because he didn’t show up, the whole matter was thrown out of court.
