6 Daily Writing Prompts, including Fandango and The Three Things Challenge

Today’s post includes 6 daily writing prompts.

Fandango’s One Word Challenge. The word is elevator.

The Three Things Challenge #727. The three words are spy, game and cheat.

The Word of the Day Challenge. The word is beat.

The RagTag Community daily challenge. The word is blogging.

The Daily Spur daily challenge. The word is illustrate.

My Vivid Blog daily challenge. The word is elephants.

**********

Veronica, with a resolute sense of anticipation, was waiting for the elevator. Her eagerness to use the computer in the school’s library was palpable, and she needed to get up there before other students had taken all of the available computers. She waited a beat before entering the elevator that had just arrived, as she recognized her teacher, and she had past-due homework. She didn’t want to ride up with her teacher, so she held back for the next elevator car to take her up.

With the last computer in sight, Veronica swiftly signed in and settled at her seat. Her textbooks lay on the desk, a reminder of her academic responsibilities. But her first and foremost priority was her blogging. She had new posts to set up and schedule for the upcoming week, a task that she was deeply passionate about and required her immediate attention.

She also needed to illustrate a children’s book on elephants that she was writing. She could do that at home because she didn’t need a computer, so she put it at the bottom of her list.

Veronica had promised her younger brother that she would find the cheat sheets for the spy game he was playing. This was no ordinary task. He needed those codes to outsmart his best friend and win the game. Armed with the locations he had given her, she knew this was the second most important task on her list.

Third, she would work on the past-due homework. She didn’t want to fail that class and have to retake it. With her schedule outlined, she set to work on the blog posts.

4 Daily Writing Prompts, including Fandango and The Word of the Day Challenge

Today’s post includes 4 daily writing prompts.

Fandango’s One Word Challenge. The word is faceless.

The Word of the Day Challenge. The words from the last two days are lawbreaker.

The Daily Spur daily challenge. The word is consciousness.

My Vivid Blog daily challenge. The word is escapade.

**********

Our community, filled with deep-seated frustration, has finally reached its limit with the faceless bureaucrats who have been dictating our lives. These bureaucrats, who we consider to be lawbreakers, have been acting with impunity, seemingly untouchable by the citizens they are supposed to serve. This is why we have convened a town meeting to address the mistreatment of our local mayor, Marcus Johnson.

Marcus regained consciousness just last week after a car accident that was clearly the fault of one of the local bureaucrats. The bureaucrat was not held accountable for the accident, which was clearly their fault, and no one felt strong enough to confront him for his part in the accident. Instead, the bureaucrats blamed Marcus.Fueled by a collective determination, the town had had enough of being run by what we considered a group of thugs. It was time to reclaim our power, take control of the situation, and run those useless bureaucrats out of town. The escapade with the mayor was the final straw for the town, igniting a fire of action and change.

FOWC with Fandango — Unfurl, Plus the Story Starter, Plus The Three Things Challenge, Plus The Rag Tag Community Daily Prompt, Plus The Daily Spur, Plus the Word of the Day Challenge

Fandango’s Rules For the One Word Challenge

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). Today’s word is unfurl.

Plus I used Fandango’s Story Starter Challenge. Today’s story starter is: #153 With tears in his eyes, Jason turned around and began to walk away.

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M722.

Your three words today are:
ELECT
SUSPECT
REJECT

**********

I am also using the Word of the Day Challenge which is breakdown.

**********

I am also using the Rag Tag Community Daily Prompt which is rugged.

**********

I am also using The Daily Spur prompt which is medicine.

**********

And last is the “My Vivid Blog” daily prompt which is refreshments.

**********

Eyeing all the medicine on the bedside table along with the untouched refreshments, Jason suspected that his dad wasn’t telling him everything about his condition. He used to be a rugged man, able to get around on his own and climb mountains for fun, but now he was confined to a bed and a wheelchair if he needed to leave his bed for something. He wanted to reject his suspicions, but the rows of medicine made him realize something was up.

He unfurled his long frame from the chair beside the bed and elected to see his father’s doctor, who was downstairs conferring with his dad’s nurse for the day shift. He now had 24-hour nursing care. After he talked to the doctor, who told him his Dad had cancer and only had a few weeks left to live, Jason was stunned and started to breakdown. With tears in his eyes, Jason turned around and began to walk away.

The executive director quashed the rumor that the head of the nursing department was leaving her position. Relief flooded through everyone as they really liked her and didn’t want to see her leave.

FOWC with Fandango — Intermission Plus The Three Things Challenge and The Writer’s Workshop

Rules For the One Word Challenge

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). Today’s word is INTERMISSION.

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M710.

Your three words today are:
LEAK
SEEP
FLOOD

**********

I also used The Writer’s Workshop by John Holton.

Here are the prompts for this week’s Writer’s Workshop:

  1. Write a post based on the word “aunt”.
  2. Write a post in exactly 12 sentences.
  3. Describe your favorite shopping mall.
  4. Book Review!
  5. List your favorite YouTube channels (no more than 5).
  6. Write about the most humid place you’ve been.

I chose numbers 1, 2 and 6 (#6 is non-fiction with a sprinking of fiction to round it out)

**********

I can’t stand humid weather. It gives me a headache.

My husband and I planned to go to the Bahamas, but I discovered they have humid weather all year round, and I could not avoid it unless he went without me. I wasn’t about to let him go on a nice vacation without me, so I prepared to spend a lot of time in the room with the air conditioner.

We arranged for Aunt Martha to watch the kids for the week and boarded the plane while the snow was still on the ground. When the plane landed in the Bahamas, we shed our winter coats and lugged them around with our suitcases.

Upon arrival at our resort, we saw signs of a recent flood due to the plumbing leaking into the resort and the water was still seeping out of the pipes and into the lobby. To our annoyance, we learned that the lobby wasn’t the only place it flooded as it just so happened our room was flooded as well. The room wasn’t useable, and we had to wait while the staff called around the island looking for a room in one of the other resorts due to a last minute cancelation.

While they located a room for us, they told us to go watch the matinee show that was happening at the moment. When we got to the room where they were holding the show, we found out that it was just in time for the 30-minute intermission. It seems we couldn’t win.

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). Today’s word is FRAIL.

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M709.

Your three words today are:
CREATE
CHAOS
CHASM

**********

The residents range from people who can walk freely to those using canes, walkers, and wheelchairs. Most of the residents in wheelchairs are frail and can’t maneuver themselves around. They need help. That makes dinnertime complicated as everyone tries to find a seat. As the seats fill up, walkers and wheelchairs block the aisles, creating total chaos.

Rules For the One Word Challenge

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). Today’s word is CREAM.

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M708.

Your three words today are:
COVER
PROTECT
SHELTER

**********

Tammy, a meticulous event planner, lifted her coffee cup and took a sip. She shuddered. It needed cream and sugar. After adding the cream and sugar to her taste, she returned to the list she had spread out on the outside table and reviewed the plans in her head. It was time to commit them to paper. She opened the cover to the notebook she devoted to her event planning, a notebook filled with her most intricate and detailed plans.

The notebook was starting to fall apart. She would either have to buy a new one or put a book cover on it to protect the cover. She felt a drop of rain, so she grabbed the notebook and raced for shelter. She listened to the thunder and watched the lightning zig-zag across the sky in the growing darkness due to the storm. The rain increased to a downpour. She would have to finish her plans for the next event inside.

FOWC with Fandango — Telephone Plus The Three Things Challenge and Melissa’s Flash Fiction Challenge

Fandango’s Rules For the One Word Challenge

FOWC

Welcome to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (U.S.). Today’s word is TELEPHONE.

I am also using the Three Things Challenge for today #M707.

Your three words today are:
HUNTER
STALK
GUARD

**********

I also used Melissa’s Flash Fiction Challenge #270.

The image is from Jonathon Pinet at Unsplash.

The image depicts a sleek, black crow, perched on brown rocks. The rocks overlook a body of water. Across, on the other side of the water, we can make out the coastline. It appears there are trees and some buildings. The sky is bright blue with puffy white clouds.

**********

Roger picked up his mobile telephone and quickly called his brother Randy. Randy was also a hunter, and Roger wanted to tell him about a new place he found that was well-populated with deer. He figured they were being hunted as he noticed the crows circling the area looking for carrion and found several well-picked-over carcasses. Roger stood guard, stalking the deer in the area while he waited for Roger to arrive with his hunting rifle. Both brothers used deer meat for venison and didn’t just kill for the fun of it. Judging by the amount of carcasses in the area, many hunters just hunted for the thrill of the kill. They left the carcass where it fell.

Your three words today are:

PAL

**********

Hello, my friend,

How are you today? How is our fellow friend, Jeremy, doing? I find it hard to believe we have all been pals for so long.  I remember the days in school when we all used to eat the paste. I think of how awful that stuff tasted, but we never stopped eating it. Do you remember Mrs. Finch yelling at us all for eating the paste rather than doing our artwork? The memory still brings a smile to my face. Talk to you soon, my friend!

Sincerely,

Joshua

He didn’t need to be surrounded by negative input while doing his best to learn the piece chosen for his tryout with the band at school.
